Hiroshi Kiyotake

I personally don't see anything alarming about his club wanting around the £12.5m mark. From our point of view we want him and for as little as possible. But rather like us with Benteke they are holding a good hand, few years on his contract and they look like they got themselves a good player. Why would they want rid? However annoying it is in modern football it might boil down to the player themselves and plenty of us would be up in arms if our new star player had left after just one season huh!

As for trusting Lambert's judgement, well I've generally been in favour of that, so whether he comes or not I'll assume there's good reason.

I know there's a bit of speculation that we might be seeing a different target come in and I'm certainly no itk, but Id love to see this rumour materialise. Kiyotake looks and sounds like a really good player - we can only assume it would raise our profile in Asia to sign him, everyone needs a dead ball specialist and on top of that it would really please the fans.

I also saw someone from the fans forum the other night said Lambert said no 'marquee signings' would be made as it was unrealistic at this point. I wonder if this would class as a marquee signing to Lambert's way of thinking? and i wonder if Bent, Hutton and Given were moved on whether this would make a marquee signing any more realistic?

Really hope this comes off, or at least a player with similar qualities. We need a better dead ball specialist and someone that can create a lot of chances sitting behind Benteke.

Wonder if there is any truth in th BS that we will be signing someone very soon.

From the Mail, basically regurgitated but the first time i've seen THEM confirm the inquiry.

Villa must find £10m if they want to land Japan star Kiyotake from Nuremburg

By DAVID KENT

PUBLISHED: 07:34 GMT, 9 August 2013 UPDATED: 07:34 GMT, 9 August 2013

Paul Lambert has been told Aston Villa must find £10million if they are to capture Nuremburg's Japanese midfielder Hiroshi Kiyotake.

The Villa boss is a big fan of the player, but the German club are not keen to sell.

Lambert had been willing to offer £7.5m for the player but is restricted by how much he can spend until Villa's big earners are off the books.

Going nowhere: Japan midfielder Hiroshi Kiyotake will not be joining Aston Villa, according to Nuremburg

Admirer: Paul Lambert has been a fan of Kiyotake since seeing him in action at London 2012

The 23-year-old first caught Lambert's eye playing for Japan at the 2012 Olympics.

Villa are still touting the likes of Darren Bent, Stephen Ireland, Alan Hutton and Shay Given to other clubs, and with Charles N'Zogbia sidelined with an Achilles injury, Lambert is keen to add another midfielder to his squad.

Speaking last month, Nuremburg general manager Martin Bader made it clear Kiyotake was not for sale.

Favourite: Kiyotake became a fan favourite after an excellent debut season in the Bundesliga

'I'm able to confirm this transfer enquiry from Aston Villa,' he said at the beginning of July.

'However, we've made it clear that we have no interest nor intention to sell the player. Such enquiries flatter us but Hiroshi is here to stay.'

Kiyotake scored four times and had 10 assists while becoming a hit with fans during his debut season in the Bundesliga.

The former Cerezo Osaka player, bought for £1m last year, has 19 caps for Japan

I don't think you'd call this a marquee signing though, despite the size of the transfer fee that it would take. He's not exactly a household name is he? I'd certainly never heard of him before we'd been linked.

It would be awesome to have him supplying decent balls to Benteke.

Not just Benteke. Benteke, Gabby & Weimann would all benefit from him creating in the middle!

I'm going to get derisory comments for this but it's pretty obvious if we do get Kiyotake he is our replacement for Barry Bannan.

For those of you who don't think Bannan had a good season last year, Kiyotake would be our upgrade on Barry Bannan.

Point is, same type of player. I hope we get him.

You may well be right.

Bannan isn't good enough. This fella may well be.

Good business then!

Con I sometimes wonder if you have ever watched Bannan play I really do.

Granted Bannan was an Attacking Midfielder when playing with the academy side (a good number of years ago now), trying to be the "little genius" who would unlock a defence. However even in the academy side he started playing deeper and Samir Carruthers took that AM role.

For the first team Bannan has rarely if ever played in the attacking midfielder role that Kiyotake will play.

Under Lambert Bannan has exclusively been used as a deep lying midfielder used to keep possession and spread the play. I have often seen you refer to him as our Iniesta but Iniesta drifts past players at will, Bannan is not able to do this at mens level.

We were trying to make him into a really really really really poor version of Xavi and he wasnt even quite up to that.

Bannan with zero assists from set pieces.. and Kiyotake top assists in Bundesliga. Kiyotake replacing Bannan.........

Well at least it's an improvement. Not that it would be hard to replace someone as inept as Bannan.

He is trolling. Shocked he hasn't been pulled up on it yet, it is now blatant.

If Bannan leaves then he will be replaced in the squad.

More than likely, I would assume that Gardner or Carruthers will take his place as a 'squad midfielder', then Kiyotake, if signed, will probably be replacing Ireland/ N'Zogbia.

Blatant, but atleast mildly amusing.

Takes all sorts to make the world go round...

I get the feeling that if Lambert really wanted this player, shifting a few to clear the wages wouldn't be an issue. He's already shown he's actively trying to get players off the books, which isn't something you can just instantly do. So what's the point in holding back on an investment now? Chances are Bent is going to be a last minute panic buy for someone, waiting until then to stump up cash for a player like this is just madness.

I don't think there is anything in this story, they enquired, were stonewalled and that was the end of that.

I'd love to see it and I'd love to be eating my hat, but I'm skeptical of it.
