Chindie Posted November 10, 2017 VT Supporter Share Posted November 10, 2017 New Korean vehicles whenever you're in a rush to get somewhere. Almost uniquely these cars inevitably drive 10mph below the speed limit and are otherwise driven like they've got a ton of nitroglycerin in the boot. No, definitely not. They are most definitely programmed that way. They most definitely aren’t programmed to give out the change in the most convenient / smallest number of coins possible. I don’t see people feeding lots of small denomination coins into the machines, I see lots of people getting pissed off with the slummy they’ve been given in change Theres one particular supermarket by us that actually uses the machines to give out Scottish and Irish notes instead of banking them. When you complain the answer they give you is that they are legal tender at which point I inform them, that actually they aren’t. Retailers are meant to accept them and bank them, then he banking system sends them back to where hey came from. You are not actually obligated to take Scottish and Irish notes in England

Or even 10p and be gone with the 5p. We're heading towards ubiquitous card / phone / biometric payment anyway.

Rodders
won't change suddenly, but a generation down the line, maybe 15-20 years time, when the balance of people who've grown up automatically paying with cards / phones etc becomes a large majority. When various tech evolutions mean that coin use becomes impossible as business' decide coin-free options are easier / cheaper. I still like coins, but their fate does seem rather doomed. Even coin aficionados can get behind the "bugger off copper" campaign, even if said movement may run into difficulties with that phrasing
Paddywhack
There will come a time when there are no more pennies left because every single one of them will be have been flattened, stretched and printed on by one of those machines you get in tourist attractions. Then we'll have to make machines that flatten, stretch and print on 2p coins instead. That's how inflation works. Christ knows what'll happen when the lowest currency available is the £5 note.

Not really no, I mean the huge swathes of people, young and old who budget for a night out say, by taking a set amount of money out of the cash machine then leave their card in the house. Lots of people do this with all manner of things like Xmas shopping etc I'd also suggest there's a correlation between how much money people earn and this kind of behaviour and as the working population is getting poorer with Brexit around the corner that set of people will be increasing not decreasing. Its also at times like this the Black economy grows and that's cash all the way
