“The basis for Ms. West’s (his teacher) actions is unclear. She certainly did not treat the clock as though it were dangerous. Ms. West initially placed the clock on her desk,” .... Ahmed was escorted out of class and taken to a room where five Irving Police Department officers, the principal and assistant principal performed an “interrogation,” attorneys said. He was not permitted to contact his parents and was “pressured to sign a written statement admitting that he intended to bring a ‘hoax bomb’ to school.” The letter states that the principal threatened that he would be expelled if he did not sign the confession.

To be fair, if he asked me to take that clock on holiday to Egypt with me, I'd be reticent.

I have no idea if $15 million dollars is close to the going rate in USA legal terms. Don't people sue for billions because someone's dog looked at them funny, or the coffee was hot or their lard burger had fat in it? That's my mental picture of america.

If what his attorneys are saying there about how he was treated is true then I hope he gets every penny.  The system can not treat people like that.  Much less innocent people and much less kids.  What a f**ked up world.

That kid who took a homemade clock to school and got arrested coz it looked like a bomb is suing the school for $15m

It wasn't a homemade clock, though, was it?

Hasn't there been a suggestion or two that it was the actual innards of a 1980s clock taken out of the original casing and stuck in a box?

I had no idea those were the real words. I've been singing the "Jamaica" version too.

Same here. I thought it was "Call me Jamaica".

We should have a dedicated mondegreen thread.

"If you like a lot of chocolate on your biscuit China club"

The popular version of that when I was at school was "If you like a lot of lipstick on your dipstick, join our club".

But wrong thread and all that.
