They wont be signing half the players they're linked with now if they go down - some of them don't want to take part in a relegation battle, so they wont want to be playing in the division below. They'll have to go down our route of buying what they see as the best of the Championship with an overpaid mercenary or two thrown in for good measure. Wolves had a thought out plan mixed with a lot of luck.

Surely they will all just negotiate a relegation release clause? I'd be amazed if Trippier hasn't got one too

The irony is, as crap as they were under Bruce he would have shit-housed enough draws to keep them up. I'm certain of it.

But the "like-able Geordies like" feeling the euphoria of the takeover basically demanded he was sacked with no real plan in place.

I have a weird feeling that come July, Howe will have been sacked, Rafa will have survived by the skin of his teeth but because of the Everton fans he "leaves by mutual consent" anyway, to immediately replace Howe and take over at Newcastle again to help them get back up into the Premier League. 

Afterall, he went to China to chase a big payday, he may again to Newcastle. He has all the makings of a new-phase Newcastle manager in that regard and is revered by much of their fanbase. 

Maybe.

As for today... I am so proud of Cambridge United (and Plymouth) for their gift to us, neutrals, purists, Mackems, the list goes on.

Yeah there is that, but who wants to sign for a new club for 5 months, it’s moving your home, to only possibly move again in a couple of months… the top players will sign for teams that are secure.

they will piss the championship. it's the poorest it's been for years especially with all the teams under transfer embargos and points deductions. those that are left don't really have the finances to sign anyone and newcastle could just buy up all the decent championship players if they wanted.

it's not a given, but i think they'll be straight back. guess it depends who goes down with them. i'm not sure smith will get norwich promoted for example but i'd back dyche to drag burnley back up

Totally agree in Burnley. But don’t underestimate that Newcastle are in a proper sh=t mess. They will need a serious clear out and they’ll need to give a manager time, which I’m not sure their owners will do.

That's what we were supposed to do when we were spending oodles on players down there and paying massive wages. Spent most of our time in the lower half.

If Newcastle do get relegated and they will lose a couple of player, what is left is still head and shoulders above what we had as a squad when we got relegated. 

Its funny they are struggling but they are still in a much stronger position than we were. I think Howe was appointed with an eye on the possibility of going down, and he will manage them next season.

Today saw the first cracks under Howe. Yes i know they are rubbish but he has put on a oretty decent attempt at being strong and fully in charge of their destiny.  They played so well against Manure but there again so do everybody. They spend a day saying how great it is to have Trippier and then go out and lose against Cambridge. They have lost Callum Wilson for 10 weeks and that will have knocked their confidence to stay up. Especially after having no one to finish off any chances. 

I think Stavely has bitten off more than she can chew . An interim director of football because no one wants to come to them . Chasing Sven Botman despite them saying he isnt for sale. Then the other centre half they are chasing who Vickery said makes mistakes every game. Maybe he could be their new Titus Bramble. 

I do think they are in serious shit .

I agree, all new signings will have a relegation clause and will jump ship in the summer. They will have major FFP issues and they will no doubt be replacing Howe during the Oct Intl break. Norwich, Watford , Boro, Baggies, Forest, Sheff Utd will all be in contention next year. Toon will struggle until they find the right manager and then they will need to give him time. Their future is not as bright as some think

Howe is a poser. Did ok at Bournemouth but they broke so many rules to get promoted  then when they got up they did overachieve but his signings were duds and the lower league players kept them up.

Very true Zatman. It'll be a revolving door for managers there, especially those that are the type to go eyes-wide-open into knowing they'll only have to do 6 -12 months before getting paid up fully on a 3 year contract. 

It makes me think, of such a backwards step as you say, and how they think they are Man City now...a little of well.... what was Man City;s path when they got bought out by their mega-rich owners, according to Wiki:

Manager 4- Pep Guardiola - 5 and a half years in - 3 League titles, 1 FA Cup, 3 League Cups - win ratio 73%

So Man City they are not, they splashed so much money after their takeover, but that was their progression. With Newcastle, Eddie Howe may be their Mark Hughes, but their next manager will be no Mancini (athough damn, the theorist in me now thinks maybe Mancini could be a candidate to replace Howe at the end of the season and wonder what the odds of that are, few quid on Rafa, few quid on Mancini).

So Newcastle fans talking it up, saying they'll be the dominant force in the Premier League in five years, some boasting they would have won the league within that time, well they have a lot of resetting of their expectations to come, especially after yesterday. Lots of mercenaries to sign, the occasional big name, a melting pot of egos and attitudes that won't care at all for Newcastle when the going gets tough..... I'm sure they';ll progress eventually over time, but with lots of fraudenschede for everyone along the way as it goes wrong. 

The slight danger is who they get as their next manager, but the way things are going, they have yesterday alone, given out such bad PR as to their prospects and just how big their task is, along with their league position. Added to that the state of the quality of that first team, I mean they could do with 15-20 new players to even be able to consider themselves premier league quality.

Here we are, and I am struggling to name any player of theirs that could walk into our team. If they go down, and on the money some of those are on, they will end up in a mess trying to shift them on, and they wont want to grind it out in the Championship. Which is why it is imperative that everyone keeps beating them and ensures they go down please. I think most people have a soft / temporary affiliation to support whoever it is playing against Newcastle on each of their match day, just like yesterday. The fact that happened, with what looked to me like mostly a first team squad, let that reality sink in for them.

And look at the managers who turned them down, the players who have so far. Our Coutinho taking a pay cut to come here, not being interested in what no doubt would have been a pay rise there. That's gotta hurt. Hurt the fans and the project and the general PR and attractiveness of going there overall.

I hope they continue to be the gift that keeps on giving. Also what's the craic with this Amanda Staveley too, I know she's technically part owner (10%) or something and is there to provide some kind of operational oversight to the club, but there seemed to be something quite unsavoury about her in all this too, aside from the football / the club. She gives me an impression of absolutely loving this and milking it as some kind of saviour-celebrity thing. The way she was jumping on PR opportunties to self promote and be in every camera she could, might be unfair of me to say and that's not some chauvinist take, but she was giving it all that, and she's soon gone quiet. She probably thinks Lascelles is some Alpine Ski Resort etc. No offence to her but I find her intolerable and one of the weirdest looking people I have ever seen. I am convinced she is not of Earthly origin, like that bloke near the start of Men In Black film that takes over the body of some guy but doesnt quite fit the face over his skull properly, that kind of weird looking.  

And Shearer too, giving it the big talk and being pro-everything-Newcastle-blindly again just because Ashley has gone. How did he feel yesterday, was he excusing it as part of their inevitable progression? Have some of that.
