a m ole
The problem for Burnley here isn’t selling Wood, it’s that they have Jay Rodriguez and Matej Vydra upfront. The way they play this absolutely cripples them.
penguin
As has been said I think it’s just as much about weakening Burnley. He ain’t great, bit of a throwback to the old days. Seems more of a Steve Bruce signing than Howe.
rodders0223
That's a terrible release clause rrom Burnley. They weren't exactly tying down Messi. Ridiculous to agree to it. I have no doubt Wood and his agent are going to absolutely rinse Newcastle

Win win for Newcastle, get a decent striker and take him from your relegation rival. Amazed it's so low, didn't Burnley sign him for about 15m 3-4 years ago? He's had a pretty solid scoring record for them so just making 5m profit is pretty poor, would've expected similar price to what we had to pay for Ings in his buyout. Probably relegates Burnley now. Newcastle still in trouble though if Watford get a draw v them and then beat Burnley and Norwich.
rodders0223
It's a good signing for the now annoyingly. Whether it's a good signing in 12 months when he's on 120k a week for 3 more years and 5th choice then who knows. If I was Newcastle and in their position I'd just get it done.

It's the definition of desperation signing. They still haven't improved their overall defence either.

They've won one game all season have no fit strikers are in the relegation zone having played 2 extra games and have a game at the weekend against relegation rivals. They aren't trawling the Belgian 2nd division for the next De Bruyne

useless
Wood no suit Howe's style of football, but might be canny at set pieces with Trippier's delivery. Dike might have been good signing for Burnley, but already gone to West Brom.

jacketspuds
It must be great to feel as wanted as Chris Wood does right now. Signing for a club that was so desperate for a striker, they waited until the 11th of Jan before triggering your release clause. 1
PieFacE Posted January 11, 2022 VT Supporter Share Posted January 11, 2022 I actually think Woods is a good player. Doubt it's enough to keep them up tho.
The Moustache of Teale
Sadly I think the shiteness of Norwich, Watford and Burnley will keep them up.

It's funny that they seem unable to improve their side, so are focussing on weakening their relegation rivals. Funny but annoying.

useless
The release clause for Wood is apparently £25m, Newcastle fans seem to think that's too much for him and that they're helping Burnley not making them weaker. Can't help think they might be right about that, if we were in Newcastle's position for example I'd be worried if we gave a relegation rival that we were trying to catch, £25m for a striker that had only scored three goals.
