While we're talking about what the constitution actually says, I'm often baffled by people arguing that background checks or licensing requirements for firearms are somehow unconstitutional. What are the second and third words of the 2nd amendment, again?

Washington Post reporting that Trump is being investigated for crimes over January 6th.

The fact this guy has faced zero consequences for the shit he has done makes an absolute mockery of the democracy in that country.

Is that actually news? I thought it was pretty obvious he was being investigated

I'm surprised how little attention it seems to be getting over here. The secret service staff having deleted all their messages from that day. Then trying to get Pence into a car so they could drive him out of Washington and him refusing to get in a car with them. The SS agents apparently just being able to decline to testify. Vast swathes of paperwork being removed from the white house to Trump's property

It's looking increasingly likely that trump's team weren't just actively stoking up a riled up fanbase that got it of hand but that it was a planned out attempt at a coup

I think it’s fairly common knowledge he’s being investigated for it.  Just one of many things he’s been investigated for along with Georgia for the phonecall and NY.  Just one of many investigations but I can’t imagine he’ll get any consequences of note like jail time.  I’ll be surprised if he gets indicted for any of it.  I’m guessing the worst he’ll get is his personal stuff with large fines.  I assume one his close associates take the fall maybe somebody like Meadows or Rudy but even then I’m sceptical.

Ivana Shatara barred from Alabama execution for ‘too short’ skirt

In Alabama, the jail guards are also the fashion police.

A reporter in the southern state says she was forbidden by prison officials from covering an execution Thursday night because they said her skirt was too short.

Ivana Hrynkiw Shatara, a video news producer for AL.com, claims she was told by a Department of Corrections that her outfit was “inappropriate” and “too revealing” as they barred her from joining other journalists in viewing the lethal injection of convicted killer Joe Nathan James, she tweeted Friday.

She wound up having to borrow rain pants from a male photographer, held up with suspenders under her skirt — and her media company is now filing a “formal complaint,” she said.

“I have worn this skirt to prior executions without incident, to work, to professional events and more, and I believe it is more than appropriate,” Shatara wrote Thursday night.

If Russia and China formally combined that would be a major problem for the world.

Russia can't combine with anything right now. And China absolutely isn't going to do anything with Taiwan with it's totally unproven Army that hasn't been in any meaningful combat since 1979. I doubt there's a single member of the armed forces in the PRC who has combat experience. China have just been sabre rattling to judge the response.

Visiting Taiwan is part of that response. It's tit for tat and it's to prove that the US hasn't taken their eye off the ball with Taiwan despite what is going on in Ukraine

I can't agree. The timing of the visit is awful. At a time of heightened tensions, when we are engaged with an increasingly isolated Russia, the visit is provocative, gives China an excuse on the world stage to behave more aggressively toward Taiwan and gives a clear common enemy to Russia and China. It almost seems designed to create a Russia China Axis. Them and us. It's an awful piece of timing, not sanctioned by the White House, and moreover, it's just a terrible idea. If China had initiated actual military action on Taiwan then sure, but at this stage what was wrong with diplomatic solidarity from a distance?

Pelosi has a thing about China. She was critical of China before it was cool 😁

I think she saw this as her last chance to stick it to them, she knows she will lose her position in November.

I had time for her during the disastrous Trump campaign, but if that's true, it's pretty god damn selfish.

There is a bit of background about her protests against the CCP over the years here:

Quote

Pelosi’s role as a crusader against the CCP began in 1991, two years after the Tiananmen Square massacre and four years after she entered Congress as a Democrat from California. While visiting Beijing on a delegation, she and two fellow Congress members broke away from their escorts and visited Tiananmen Square without permission. While there, they held up a hand-painted banner saying: “To those who died for democracy in China”. Pelosi and her colleagues fled the scene, but several journalists covering the event were detained by Chinese police.

The Alex Jones/sandy Hook trial has taken an interesting turn. It seems his defence lawyer accidentally sent a full digital copy of his phone and the prosecutors have every text and email he's sent in the last 3 years.

Surely there's some dodgy January 6th stuff on there to someone.
