Thats what I despise most about Chelsea and Man Utd, they can fail as many times as they want, then rinse and repeat as many times as they want and just spend and take whatever manager/players they want until they get it right again. Zero jeopardy while the rest of us walk on eggshells hoping not to fall foul of those rules they set up to keep us in our place. God forbid we get a few top players of our own, they’ll soon get taken off our hands when they get their wages trebled then the cycle resets again; lets try to build a side again that can stay together for a year or two at best and hope we can sustain a big push for 7th Just stinks of corruption doesnt it? At this point we'd probably be better off **** off the top teams to a so called Super League. Problem is, that would most likely kill the Premier League and other top domestic competitions completely as TV money, fan interest and everything else gets re-routed to that new shiny thing instead. After all, that will be where all the cool teams are that kids love. It's a really sad state of affairs, and there really isn't much competition to be had any longer. If one top club fails to reach the CL, they'll still be able to spend amounts the rest of us could only dream about, and all the top players care about is the CL. No-one is really interested in joining a 'project' since players are run by PR-agencies, and they are as much a brand as they are a person, and the brand will suffer if they join a club outside the top tier. I keep saying that the only thing that could level the playing field is the coming financial disaster and the possibility of it forcing big money investors out of special interest things such as football. Otherwise, the problem will just keep getting more and more pronounced, and football will become even less dynamic. I think the most dynamic aspect coming in the next few years is Newcastle replacing Arsenal or Spurs at the absolute top.

Marka Ragnos Posted September 14, 2022 VT Supporter Share Posted September 14, 2022 Boehly's suggestion for an American-style "All-Star Game" in British football seems real nope to me. Not sure I agree it would bring needed "fun." What would bring more "fun" would be clubs not funded by petrostates. I think the last thing the PL need is more US-inspired spectacles such as 'all star games' or things like it. As an avid hockey fan, it's one thing I never watch during the NHL season.

a-k
Well, at least someone rejected them Quote "When a club like Chelsea is interested in you, it is a big honour not just for you, but also for the work of the club in general," said Freund. Otherwise, the problem will just keep getting more and more pronounced, and football will become even less dynamic. I think the most dynamic aspect coming in the next few years is Newcastle replacing Arsenal or Spurs at the absolute top. Leicester proved that you can win the league and be able provide your players with CL games, which supposedly they prize above everything else, and they'll still **** off to Chelsea and Man City. In fact @BleedClaretAndBlue - just to prove your point - didn't Chelsea finish 10th when Leicester won the league and somehow still manage to take Kanté and Drinkwater off their hands immediately afterwards? A team with a better brand will trump a league-winning/CL-qualifying Leicester or Villa every single time. If we ever manage to qualify for the CL, and if it should happen that we finish several places above, say, Arsenal that season, a player like Watkins would be off to them in a heartbeat if they want him. Doesn't matter if he gets games with them or not. All for the clout of playing for Arsenal, the team he idolised growing up. I know it's useless to blame Ellis now, but his disinterest in helping us truly build on our cup successes and relatively strong league positions in the 90s is still hurting us. Without excusing decisions made by later chairmen at all, I think the die was cast very early on in the PL, and Ellis never allowed us to become enough of a 'cool team' for the current crop of players, who all grew up in the 90s/00s and probably paid very little attention to us as a result of his lack of ambition. (Even those who grew up in the Midlands, like Chukwuemeka. Recently called Chelsea his boyhood club. ‘Grew up supporting them’.) We may sell ourselves as an interesting 'project', but, even if we could offer CL, we're never going to outshine the team who had Henry, or the one who had Drogba. Players care as much about the boots they see themselves as filling as the ones they play alongside. Even Newcastle are discovering that it's going to take them a little time to build their brand, though I suspect it won't be too long, and I think they have more clout than us to begin with - again, on the back of stuff from the 90s/00s, like the Keegan years (1992-97), Shearer, and their fairly regular appearances in the CL and UEFA Cup. Leeds would have it too, for similar reasons, if only they had better financial backing. Growing up, I always remember kids supporting Newcastle and Leeds if they bothered with anyone outside of Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal or Chelsea. Spurs are definitely the anomaly in all this. Anyway... no wonder we're seen as dour, eh? Edited October 14, 2022 by His Name Is Death
