Goal and assist for Lowton, always liked him, solid if unspectacular.

Decent footballer. Zero pace. Works in a less modern agricultural team like Burnley but not in a more progressive team.

Still boils my piss that he didn't goal of the month for this strike against Stoke because Robin Van Persie did for his 'goal' against us - WHICH WAS F*****G OFFSIDE.

When the ball comes out to him I can never quite believe he's going to score from there. (Apologies for the music.)

Always remember Lowtons performance in the 6-1 Vs Sunderland. He was sensational that night.

Best RB performance I've ever seen live.

Says something that he outshone benteke, who was darling of the holte and scored a hat trick.

Not many RBs get MOTM in a game where their team scores 6.

Didn't he play right back 😛

Still a smashing performance though

no surprise MON comes across as a clearing in the woods.  Marlon seems a decent lad

Another player confirming O'Neill's approach to management. Don't talk to the players all week, then on matchday he just named a first 11 without even positions or formations, nevermind tactics, and left them to it.

It explains a lot about that era.

sign a player dont play him, player wants to leave and doesnt let him in case he does better elsewhere. Interesting that Harewood brings up the Cahill incident and sounds like that rattled MON

Seems a good fella. Shows that MON was already a dinosaur when he was at Villa as he was incapable of managing a squad. I am never sure what O'Neill actually did at Villa as he didn't really do the coaching and didn't seem to be do much man management either.

New England Revolution midfielder Carles Gil has won Major League Soccer's Most Valuable Player award, the league announced on Tuesday.

Gil was a key cog in the Revolution's spectacular regular-season run that saw the team win the Supporters' Shield and amass an MLS-record 73 points.

The Spanish midfielder and club captain had a league-leading 18 assists alongside four goals for the Revs in the 2021 season. Gil collected 10 assists in New England's opening 10 games -- matching the MLS record for most assists from the start of a season. He is the second Revs player to win the award, following Taylor Twellman in 2005.

Despite earning the top seed for the MLS Cup playoffs, Gil and the Revolution were bounced out in the conference semifinals by eventual East champions New York City FC, who will face the Portland Timbers in the final on Sunday

The MVP award is yet another end-of-season individual accolade for Gil, who already has been named the Comeback Player of the Year and included in the MLS Best XI.

Alpay is still as mad as a box of frogs

Controversial former Aston Villa defender-turned-parliamentarian Alpay Ozalan has been involved in a shocking government scuffle in Turkey.

Alpay, who's now deputy for the Justice and Development Party (AKP), was recorded throwing punches at rival politicians during an assembly in Ankara on Wednesday.

Reports across Turkey outlined how a fight broke out over statements made by Özgür Özel, deputy chairman of the Republican People's Party whom Alpay is against.

"Tensions rose again during the budget negotiations in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey," outlet Sozcu stated.

"When Özgür Özel, who came to the podium to respond to Minister Süleyman Soylu, AKP Deputy Alpay Özalan marched on Özel.

"When other deputies intervened, the discussion grew and a fistfight ensued."

In the video shared throughout Turkey, ex-Villa defender Alpay can be seen hurling punches towards a group of ministers in front of him before being led away.

Alpay, meanwhile, spent three seasons at Villa Park between 2000 and 2003 and made 57 appearances scoring once, a goal against Charlton at Villa Park that was marred by his celebration as he silenced the Holte End after he was booed for his antics for Turkey against England involving captain David Beckham.
