Got it horribly wrong. Messing with the defence when we have a system with not much room for error, killed us. 
 

Digne can’t defend, chambers can’t run. Kamara is well off it, Tielemans, hopefully he shuts up about starts now.

Got to say it, baileys softer than a 90 year old man whose been on whiskey all days Penis.

Another below poor performance and I can only hope was left on the pitch as he won't be featuring on Sunday.

Lenglet was very poor as was watkins who looked disinterested when he came on.

Duran and zaniolo being taken off and putting watkins and keeping Bailey on was a huge mistake, should have been Bailey and teilemens off for diaby and Ramsey so we at least kept the hard working players out there.

I know we have to rotate players but at least take the ineffective ones off.

**** useless to be honest. First European game in 13 years and we performed pretty embarrassingly. Emery has to take a lot of the blame for tonight, learnt nothing from the Stevenage game.

Garbage.

Collectively, tactically and individually.

I'm particularly concerned with that midfield performance and the back line looked shaky.

Attitude was wrong from the start though, we played it like billy big balls and got taught a lesson. You don't win on your name, you work for it and you play hard.

Kamara had the worst game he's had for us in a season where he keeps lowering that bar - he needs a talking too - he's decided it should be easy and the game does not agree.

Chambers was poor - but the midfield for me was the problem,

Fair play to the Poles, they were organised and clinical and played really well, but we completely failed to defend them.

There was nothing wrong with the eleven selected - if Emery meant for Kamara and Tielemans to play way upfield then the defeat is on him, if he didn't, then those players need a really strong talking to - that's where we lost it.

Tielemans is playing like a man who is baffled why we're not building our team around him and is missing the obvious in terms of his own performances. The next few months will define the second half of his career - he can get his head together, start working again or sleepwalk into playing for Genk next season - he's half the player he was and twice that in his mind. He worries me.

Lots of work to do - it's game one which is the good news, we've got five games to fix it - we need to though, this was nowhere near good enough in any area of the game.

And TNT can get in the bin - their coverage matched our performance.

I was worried as soon as I saw that back line.

Thought Pau, with his European experience would be a nailed on starter. They looked like what they were. A back line who had never played together in anger before.

I get the need for a squad and that we have a PL game on Sunday, but we played a stronger team against Hibs away.

Just baffled.

Too many changes in the starting line up tonight. This was always unlikely to be a gimme and so it proved. We need to beat them at home and win three of our other four games to win this group now. At least we might get a bigger price on us winning the trophy now from the bookies.  A disappointing return, but thankfully it isn't over two legs and we have the opportunity to put this right in our remaining group games.

Very poor. Woeful midfield. inept in defence and disappointing when our first choice attackers came on. In a week when I learn that my beloved Hole Suite is beyond my pocket. You can commercialise our club but you've got to provide a decent product first

The ghost of the gloomy Villa fan of the past 20 years, who sits permanently on my shoulder predicting disaster, was not really surprised by that.
 

I am sorry to say Emery got the selection wrong and an inexplicably timid performance on the pitch did the rest. Legia had a well-researched game plan that worked well for them. We didn’t appear to have one.

Zaniolo man of the match for me, marks for effort at least.

Emery made too many changes. Should have started with a solid defence, and that would have made a big difference.

He is supposed to be the European Competition expert. Didn't look like it tonight.

Case of our defending being poor rather than just our defenders being poor. Would have expected 2x players in the #6 role and we had none. Kamara has been cack this season and just never looked bothered tonight ..... never tracked back, never defended and left Konsa/Lenglet completely exposed. Still thought we'd escape but the crass decision to replace the dynamic and powerful Duran with the lightweight, sloppy Watkins ended the game right there ..... and don't start me on Emery's love affair with Bailey !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well that was a very poor show wasn't it? Emery made the mistake of trusting his squad, and he found out that he cannot trust them. Have to say we look terrible with this high line, and the players clearly are not up to it defensively. The good news is that we have opportunities to put this right.
