    Unai Emery

If he ever were to leave (hopefully not and he's here 10+ years), I'd go for Amorim or Fonseca who have real pedigree and would probably do well here. Iraola too maybe who seems a talented young coach, albeit at smaller clubs. I don't think Unai would be thinking about leaving soon but you're never sure in football. The owners appointed him in the first place though so have proven they can identify a top manager.
  2. Best performance of 2024 by an absolute mile. Fabulous performance and so proud of the team considering the players missing and Unai has got his tactics spot on today. We can believe again. Top 4 ours to lose now if we can see this game out.
  3. Whenever Diaby gets in the final third his final ball is terrible. Shame.
  4. Playing well. Shame Ollie couldn’t score with the great chance but he was unlucky it didn’t go in off the post. We are defending very well today which makes a pleasant change but Martinez has still had to make some crucial saves. It’s finely balanced. We need to watch Odegaard as he’s a brilliant footballer and creating all their best moves. We might still lose but this is far better than the Man City game where we never stood a chance with that lineup. The longer it stays 0-0 may as well throw on Bailey, Duran and maybe Cash and Moreno and go for the win.
  5. Debatable. I think we’d still be where we are in the league but the team(s) below us would be closer, maybe within 5 points of us. And that would put huge pressure on us to win our remaining games. As it happens, the fact that there are 10 points between 4th/5th and 6th/7th still despite the poor form of us in the last 5 games and Tottenham constantly losing away from home shows that the teams below us are all totally unreliable. You’d think in previous seasons there’d be at least one team to take advantage if the teams in 4th and 5th stuttered.
  6. Lol don’t be so facetious. I think 5 years is a better indicator because it’s more relevant. If you were looking to buy a business you wouldn’t look at the last 10 years of financial performance because it goes too far back, 5 years is a good benchmark for what is happening now. We will deserve to finish wherever we finish. All I’m saying is we are somewhat fortunate that outside the top 3 there are no great sides. Man Utd have spent loads but are poor, Tottenham are unreliable, Newcastle have too many injuries, Chelsea are totally dysfunctional, and West Ham just aren’t capable of disrupting the elite. Any of those sides could have taken advantage of us stumbling at the business end of the season but haven’t shown anywhere near the consistency needed which is of course good for us.
  7. The average points for 5th over the last 5 years is 67 points, but ok if you want to go back 10 years. I’m not saying we haven’t done incredible work this season, we have, first half of the season was some of the best football I’ve ever seen us play. I guess I just watch us play at the moment and we don’t look like a team that is in the top 4, in fact we don’t even look close to that level at times. But I guess Spurs fans will be saying the same thing about their team which is why it’s a strange season.
  8. Football is for me, I’ve followed it all my life and who are you to tell me what I should or should not enjoy. I wasn’t slandering the team, just being honest, I really do rack my brains why you guys are so sensitive sometimes. We aren’t playing like a top 4/5 team currently and if you can’t see that then I don’t know what to say. Injuries may partially explain it but Newcastle have had a horrendous injury list and still look very good. I personally think Kamara has been a big loss from the guys missing and maybe Mings (but he was missing in the first half of the season too where we looked very good and better than last season), but we still have enough talent on the pitch to be performing better than we are, especially defensively. If you don’t agree fine, maybe football isn’t for you then.
  9. It’s been a strange season in many ways. We aren’t playing well enough over the last few weeks and months to finish 4th, even 5th, but there’s so many poor teams this season that keep messing up when they have a chance to close the gap, United a prime example and Tottenham too. We’ll finish 4th or 5th but by default more than anything.
  10. It’s been bad but Newcastle have 13 players out and most of them would be first choice.
  11. If Newcastle finish in the top 6 let alone top 5 Howe deserves manager of the season. Their injuries are ridiculous, Krafth, Murphy and Burn are at the back for them today and their 2nd keeper, that’s far worse than what we’re having to put out. How we managed to lose 4-0 to this Tottenham team with fewer injuries than Newcastle I don’t know but there you go. They’re shocking away to any top half team.
  12. Yeah got you, thanks for correcting. Still that's only 2 from the last 4 seasons, not 3. I'm fairly sure we'll finish 5th even if we just get a point a game from here on in. I think to get 4th we need to win 4 of our last 6 games and the way we're playing I don't see us doing that.
  13. What? No it wasn't. Can't believe that got 2 likes if I'm honest, 60 points probably hasn't been enough for 5th in this league for the last 20 years or so. 22-23: Liverpool 5th (67 points) 21-22: Arsenal 5th (69 points) 20-21: Leicester 5th (66 points) 19-20: Leicester 5th (62 points)
