Until he has the group, with the ability to play his way.....we are never likely to see the best of him. The Owners have to back him, but I don't know how much FFP inhibits that. Its a complicated situation.....but we have to stay with him, through this bumpy road. He’s always played this way at all levels even at teams like Lorca in the segunda division and Almeria a team he won promotion to la liga and continued to play out of the back and on the front foot they beat the likes of Real Madrid and finished 8th in their first season back in La Liga on a shoe string budget signing players from lower leagues. He’s always been quite good at working with what he’s got.
Popular Post KentVillan
I think some of the “wrong players” will become the right players over time through coaching. There will be a few slow learners in the squad who he will keep faith with.

We have not had this type of manager here.. ever "Ever" is a long time with this club. What about George Ramsay? Surely the greatest Villa manager ever. Not sure the eras are comparable. Nor has Emery been here long enough to judge his success here. In terms of best CV prior to joining us, not sure there's much debate is there?

To take it even further, we only had 4 wins against teams that finished above us in the table (14th) out of 18 matches against such teams. 14 points out of 54. Against the top 10 it was 2 wins against Brighton, 1 win 1 draw against Leicester and then just a solitary point against the rest of the top 8 (United at home, Coutinho's debut). We were simply flat track bullies under him. Beating up on the Norwich's of this world and not much else. We are a much different proposition now. It feels good to be able to go into any match thinking we have a good shot at winning. Over the past year I was reminded of the Steve Bruce era where I'd just write off any game against a team above us in the table. It's a soul-sucking feeling. Anti-football. We might have lost the last 3 games (conceding 11 goals in the process), but I'd be lying if I said all 3 games weren't thrilling (not so much the City game as usual). That's what football's about, and I'm glad Unai brought it back. And I trust him to sort things out to the point where we're going to be on the right end of those results in due time.

But I see a parallel...like Emery, Ramsay came in from a foreign land (Scotland was certainly foreign in football terms then) with a different style that was more sophisticated than what the club (or, In Ramsay's case, all England) had been doing. Chindie Posted February 23, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted February 23, 2023 The road isn't going to be smooth all along the way and there's going to be tough times, and it's a bloody big job. But Emery is about the best manager we realistically could have at the moment (discounting unknowns or punts coming good from nothing). He's been successful enough for long enough in his career to suggest the guy is pretty decent in the managerial stakes. Obviously that's not a guarantee of success, but if he fails there's got to be questions of how far we realistically can get.

I'm of the view that 3 - 4 of the right, top quality players, can also improve the team as a whole and help some of the current players, to be better and play to their full potential.

Waiting for people that say we need 6-7 first team players in one window to replace what we have to show club in PL football that makes this drastic change and had success

Man City took a while for their signings to improve them during the first oil years. Newcastle improved massively thanks to only 4 signings, and as previously mentioned only 1 of them was really the cause. If you're not miles off (and we aren't), then a balanced and targeted approach is the best way so as close to guarantee a quick improvement as you can get. Let's just hope the 2 or 3 world class players we want in the summer can be persuaded to join us. Emery will know all this, will know who he wants, will know who is going to step up with us, and who isn't. He's a very very intelligent man, and when it comes to football intelligence, there probably aren't many in the world that can compete with him.

Popular Post Villarocker
I love him! Seriously, no negativity please. Unai is the real deal and the man we've been praying for. My Dad watched the game with me today and he said to me that the biggest threat to our future success if the fans. How can we argue with that? Unai needs time and, if we give it, we will win trophies again. 32

Zhan_Zhuang
A very likeable man and a top level coach. Again he still needs time, patience. I don't think Professor Emery will change much too soon, he sees potential in many of these players. They are doing well for him for the most part.
