I think the reality is that Gerrard will want to look at the younger players and see if they are ( in his opinion) good enough to displace a more senior player. I agree we need the best players we can possibly attract but i do not want that to be at the expense of our youth.

If we had 7 central midfielders for instance and it looked like this below then i would not be totally unhappy

McGinn .....Ramsey

Kamara.....Iroegbunam .... Nakamba

Luiz .........Chukwuemeka

And then if we brought in a new midfielder to replace Luiz then even better if he was on his way out.

A midfield of Nakamba, McGinn and Luiz has proved to not be good enough / consistent enough for more than 2 seasons now.  Expecting that suddenly the arrival of Kamara solves the entire problem with the midfield is a massive risk.  If Kamara gets injured we are back to the same midfield we had last year.  Yes JJ is a much better player than he was last season - but his form dropped off with the amount of work he needed to do and the number of games he had to play.  Being reliant on two youth players who have yet to prove themselves at senior level is a big risk.  The best thing for Tim and Chuk in terms of their progression is for them to be playing minutes within a strong midfield that is controlling matches and let's them settle into first team football.  It is highly unlikely that they will have the same transformation that JJ had last season.  If Kamara gets injured you are suggesting that our starting midfield would be Nakamba, McGinn and Luiz.  If we are getting outplayed then having JJ, Tim and Chuk as the options available to transform matches is exceeding ambitious.

I'd love Tim and Chuk to get more minutes next season but they need to be playing in a team that are playing well, high in confidence and able to control the play.  Maybe they will both transfer their England U19s performances into strong PL form but if they don't then we would be left with a massive, massive issue.

I would love to have another top quality midfielder in situ . Most probably to replace Luiz as he has shown no sign so far of wanting to sign a new contract  For instance if we sold Luiz and replaced him with Sangare then brilliant. But not if we bought Sangare in  kept Luiz and pushed one of young players further down the ladder.

Nakamba would be great as a 3rd choice holding midfielder.  But not further up the ladder.

I suspect that by Jan it will be JJ or Ramsey, not JJ and Ramsey. A perfect position to be in . For where we are currently.

I would be livid if we ended up with Nakamba Ramsey and McGinn as a midfield starting in the prem .

Chelsea signing Sterling could potentially open up a move for Werner though. Whether that's a good thing or not it's up to you to decide.

I'd take him on loan with an option to buy.

I always thought that If lewandowski goes to Barca then Bayern would go for Werner. Proven goal machine in Germany so is the perfect replacement. They are also one of the few clubs in Europe that can afford his wages.

I genuinely believe that if we sign 1 more quality midfielder (say Sangare) and keep Luiz then there will be better opportunities for Tim and Chuk not worse opportunities.  If Luiz goes then we need two midfielders to be in the same position.  Sangare - Kamara - JJ would be an excellent starting trio.  Luiz and McGinn offer strong back-up and Chuk and Tim suddenly give us and Gerrard, real options from off the bench.  Especially if Chuk is also considered as a possible option at 10.

I want us to give the youngsters the right opportunities not just any opportunity.  I'd rather than gain experience in a team playing well and winning than being brought on when we are struggling and under extreme pressure when we are hoping / expecting them to try and change the course of a game.  As they settle into first team football and if they then prove themselves then they can play themselves into a position of earning chances in more even matches.  Then in 2 seasons time we could be in the brilliant position of having Sangare, Kamara, JJ, Tim and Chuk all having good PL experience at a young age and making midfield a position of strength rather than weakness for the next x years.

Here's a bright idea you lot will hate 😂

I have just been reading the BBC gossip column and with the Sun's story on who Arsenal are trying to offload, amongst the players was Ainsley Maitland-Niles who only has 12 months left on his deal and is a major utility player.

If we end up clearing out a few midfielders I think he would be a good pick up on the cheap, he can play wing back too when someone is injured as well.

Handy player, yep. I wouldn't hate it if he came on a free in January ala Chambers.

I think he had a big cry that he was only ever getting minutes at full back for Arsenal and Albion. Don't think he'd be too keen on coming in as back-up for about 5 positions.

We've got Young in that role in the meantime while we pad out the squad with specialised players in more define roles.

I think he might be available for 5-10 million a snip for a utility player like that.

Im a bit of a fan of having one or maybe two of those about

This week the club have really been spoiling us con questi annunci, on Monday Young's new contract, Trezeguet's departure, Wilson signing, Tuesday Feeney's new contract, Ruesha Littlejohn's new deal, then yesterday Sinisalo's new contract, and Simone Magill signing for the women's team, could even count Gerrard confirming that we still want more players. I wonder what announcements the club have in store for us today and tomorrow 😍

We averaged 6th in the premier league for masses of the season before last. We also had a points tally at the end which would get you 7th or 8th most seasons. Weve added about 8 top, expensive players since then. We cant just keep buying, we actually need to use the players we have, well.

They've mowed the VP grass ?

When we have a new signing in the pipeline I'm sure we will hear about it.

I’m sure this has been mentioned but I’ve just looked at the SG interview from yesterday and he’s made it quite clear he’s looking to get another midfielder in.

You imagine if he does Sanson, Luiz or Marv might be out the door depending on if it’s an 8 or a 6 type!
