Popular Post Jas10
I think it’s reasonable to want us to strengthen the team further (the club constantly talks of our ambitions, even mentioning Europe, so the pressure isn’t just from the outside/fanbase) and there are valid concerns over whether our present squad is good/strong enough to achieve a top half finish - let alone compete for a European place. The league just gets more and more competitive and the spending is not letting up… as of now, it feels like we’ve lost touch on sides like Arsenal and Spurs (lucky to get Conte and strengthened so well) when, not so long ago, there did seem to be an opportunity or opening there to catch and compete with sides like that, depending on signings and performances of course. It seems like we’re just having to fight hard for a midtable spot now with the likes of West Ham, Leicester, Palace and Wolves… if we want to set our sights higher, we do need a few players of superior quality… easier said than done though… Last season was disruptive and so underwhelming and we finished in a poor position… maybe with a more stable/smooth run we can or even should be finishing in that top 10. But I think we want more than that but it’s not easy because who really stands still in this division and is not looking to progress? What I don’t find reasonable or even valid is for anyone to rule us out of any further activity especially when it’s so early… I don’t know where anyone is getting that idea from and can even be even close to certain… it just seems like needless and baseless negativity and pessimism. Best to be patient and see how things pan out, transfers are rarely ever straightforward. Newer players, improving and helping, will help bring on the games of older ones and hopefully reduce their responsibilities (less covering for deficiencies, having to do multiple or unfamiliar roles). However, I do feel that there is much much more to come from many of our current players, particularly the ones we signed last season. There has to be a focus on better conditioning and coaching so we give them a chance to show their best for us. SG needs to show he is worthy of this role and can backup his words too, I’m still not completely convinced by him but remain hopeful. We’ve got off to a great start with the signings of Carlos and Kamara, I think many people will be surprised (maybe even shocked) at how much they will improve us but I would like to see a few more tbh. Plenty of time for that. Just feel it’s best for everyone to take a “clean slate” approach, it’s a fresh new season and almost feels like a fresh new squad and manager that will have a better opportunity to perform somewhere near their best unlike previously. Less disruptions will help. Edited July 6, 2022 by Jas10

Don't you want our still relatively new manager to get hold of the players he's already got, implement his shape and style and then integrate some of the great youngsters we have coming through? I want to see a managerial step up in quality next season, that's one of the biggest things for me, Gerrard needs to show why he's here and that's not just this Gerrard transfer draw he supposedly has

Popular Post PieFacE Posted July 6, 2022 VT Supporter Popular Post Share Posted July 6, 2022 Chelsea signing Sterling could potentially open up a move for Werner though. Whether that's a good thing or not it's up to you to decide. I'd take him on loan with an option to buy.

Surely a new midfielder is dependent on at least Sanson leaving. Carney should avoid signing a new contract as it seems we're going to stock up on 8s People judge success by how many players we can sign. No interest in working with and developing existing players. Plus its more exciting innit? Kamara and Carlos signed a few weeks ago? Boring! Old news!

Werner would be worth an enquiry about a loan but highly doubtful it would happen.

What we don't need is a full rebuild every summer. Especially when players like Bailey haven't really started their careers with us yet. I'm still hoping we sign Suarez though Edited July 6, 2022 by Xela
