I think Chelsea will throw money at it for the next few years hoping something sticks, but this could be the start of their downfall… mad to spend £250m in a summer window and then sack the manager after 6/7 games. I'm old enough to remember when Southampton were the model for this, they couldn't get a managerial appointment wrong, Liverpool wanted all their players, but they had dossiers on every player in Europe for each position as back up, on and on. It didn't last forever, and it's unlikely to last forever in Brighton's case either; there is a hard limit in how much you can achieve with no Champions League football and hundreds of millions of pounds less per year than the teams you're trying to catch. The_Steve Posted September 7, 2022 Author Share Posted September 7, 2022 Ludicrous revisionism of Brighton - we only finished 6 points behind them with the utter terrible runs we had. They are very catchable. Brighton had a lot more draws than we did last season and we won one more game than they did.
