Someone I trust as ITK has told me this is genuine. Doesn’t mean it will happen, but the story hasn’t been invented by journos - there is real interest in signing JWP.

Our connection must be via the agent link.

Nothing’s changed TRO. They didn’t want us to win the league in 1981 and we got almost zero recognition 12 months later. Let’s face it our former chairman tried to eradicate it from history once he came back.

We’re a different beast now. They’ll all hang on to their old prejudices for as long as they can though. As a city I think Brum is on the rise too. We’ll never be as gobby as the Mancs, that’s just not us but we’ll just get on with it.

All the ducks are aligning for us now. Our owners are superb both in terms of their monetary wealth and their business acumen.  The bloke running the team at BMH is one of our own and the bloke running things on the pitch is as Villa as you and me. Even the future King Of England is a Villa fan.

We’re not trendy or cool to the media or the plastic fans. Perhaps we’re a bow legged chick and a knockneed hen but we’re Aston Villa and we’re here to upset the apple cart. They won’t like it or believe it, but would you want to bet against us? UTV!!!

They took the mickey out of Ron pouring scorn on his 110% work rate.......but he had the last Laugh.

For me a class above rice and Phillips.

I disagree he is class above Rice, not having that.

In time you will see the class of Rice and Bellingham, shine through....they are thoroughbreds.....such allround talent and drive.

I think Ward-Prowse is good though.

Funny how cognitive dissonance works isn't it.

I've seen the same people comment that we should be in FFP trouble for spending so much, bemoaning their club not making successful signings like we have and asking why a player would want to come here.

Edit: I also still see some people refer to us as a 'yo-yo club'.  Maybe it's just me, but a yo-yo that only goes down and up once wouldn't be much good.

Its very difficult to stay up in this league, the teams who do have a culture shock after a few games( I think Leeds and Wolves were exceptions)......It requires many many things, but teams who find scoring goals easy in the championship discover a new level of defender, who reads the game so well and the opportunities before..... dry up.

It was a very hard season for us, and staying up we did, it doesn't matter now, how we did it.....every team needs a bit of luck, to stay up.

Year 3 and the owners are more conducive than ever, to investing money, Dean has created the platform and we are in a position to move forward properly, with gusto.

The planning the timing, the decision making all seems so joined up to me, its like the strategy is clear.....I have no doubt, the odd set back will still challenge us.....but I honestly feel, we have found the Silk Road and success is not far away.

Look, I don’t think we will sign him. It comes too soon after I said he’d be my dream signing… I don’t get that lucky.

But I promise anyone that (as you say) this comes from SOMEWHERE. There is a 0% chance that Paul Doyle, a senior journalist who specialises in writing about Midlands football, is at Villa Park every week who never breaks transfer rumours just decided “I’ll make up a link to JWP.” Maybe he’s been conned, maybe it’s an agent playing a game, maybe it won’t happen, maybe it will - but he would not have said we were planning to make a bid unless a genuine source told him that.

Also a few days before Jack saying what he did about Villa free kicks so openly and then we get linked with a top notch free kick taker.  Was the link a guess based on what Jack said or does Jack know something and either slipped out or him being mischievous or did it mean nothing and just coincidental.

I think the lads know exactly who’s coming and are having some fun with it. Big Emi and his Instagram with little Emi, Jack with his set piece comment, even Marv last year with his Rashica pic ( @AvfcRigo82 is convinced we agreed terms with the player).

I await the next cryptic clue with interest!

It’s like Tony Xia’s emoticons but next level with with player hints 😂

EDIT: Don't read more into this than "these two know each other going way back"... but Targett can clearly point to his improvement under Smith since leaving Southampton, and JWP will trust him on that as someone he has grown up playing with since youth football.

That was posted early on. What's the relevance?

See my edit - they played youth football for years together, and Targett is someone whose opinion he trusts on Smith, the Villa setup, etc.

The player is probably thinking Soton are leveling off and aren't going to take the next step. He might see Villa as an intriguing project where he will get more playing time than if he went to a Super League side.

Doyle tweeted this 11 minutes after tweeting his JWP article. Look at the ... at the end. Smacks of transfer rumour invention

Jack Grealish has been the most fouled player in the PL for the last two season (despite missing 12 matches last season)...
