Popular Post Shay
Get those claret and blue tinted glasses off. Made up link or not i dont think anyone can deny he is better than any of our midfielders so of course he will elevate our squad and first 11. He is 26 and coming to his peak years so his best years will be with us. 8 out of 15 of his goals/assists contribution last season came from set-piece and 3 from the spot. Thats worth 10 million alone. I bet Ollie and Wesley would benefit from it the most. Even Mings could get some goals from those set piece i reckon. This season we haven’t been able to turn most of the results in our favour when coming from behind. Chasing a game? Bring Wesley/Davis on, win some free kicks. We can get an advantage from that for sure. Squad depth is important if we’re aiming for europe. Even more so with our style of play, our players are gonna get gassed by feb if we don't implement some form of rotation, evident by this season. And 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 he will fit in there anyway, and I haven’t seen anything to suggest Dean is gonna only play one formation. He changes formations depending on which he feels is suited to win the game. If having him in the team leave Mcginn/Luiz on the bench then so be it. Look at it positively, we’ll have a stronger bench. Season is long, they will rotate. 4

Look at it positively, we’ll have a stronger bench. Season is long, they will rotate. I find it quite incredible that people want/expect us to progress but think we can do it with a paper thin squad. Yes last season the first 11 were very good early in the season but once injuries, tiredness, suspensions, drop in form etc. kicked in and as a team we dropped off. People criticised Dean for not making substitutions but when you looked at our bench it was devoid of any real game changers. It’s no coincidence that the teams with strong squads generally come good in the second half of the season. We’ve made great strides and now to kick on again the type of players we need to improve our squad don’t come cheap. We now have some financial muscle and equally importantly the set up with brains to use it properly. I think we’ve already invested in youth and that is now beginning to come through. However there has to be intelligent use of the market too. Taking other clubs better players off them is part of that. We all know it’s happened to us plenty of times. There will also be opportunities to buy potential but we can’t just buy potential and hope they all work. We seem to have a balanced approach, which bodes well for the future. He clearly prefers players with experience of English football. JWP would be a "day 1" signing. There'd be no integration period. He'd just start flying, I'm sure of that. Yes, and the value for money argument is misframed too, imo. The value is in what he adds to the team performance. If we’re reverting to 4-3-3 then the priority in transition will be feeding the ball out quickly to Grealish and Buendia then offering support. JWP is an excellent and accurate passer of the ball, has a good engine and is combative - his England performance was superb in all these aspects. He’ll improve the team by losing the ball less, recovering it faster and making dead ball situations a threat again. I think we’ll go to £40m and it will be worth it.

For us I think so too, he is better than our current central midfield and for £40m that's a good price I also think that's about £20m short of what Southampton will want for him if they were to even sell him at all... And he's not worth that Do also agree with those suggesting that this is 2+2=5 a journo has taken the grealish set piece comments* and ran with it cooking this shit up, purslow being purslow won't lower himself in to taking about speculation, I really don't see this happening and hope it doesn't get dragged out all summer * would be interesting to know if what grealish said was laced with any bitterness over Hourihane struggling for games, going on loan and now I'd guess leaving this summer - but then that conversation would just start an "unhappy grealish wants out of villa" stream of bullshit
