We know these clubs have like everyone else had heavy losses under covid. How big part of their results are tickets, merchandise, fan related stuff in general and social media? I think it's probably more than expected For Man Ud, I believe that matchday incomes account for less than 10% of their total income.
Mantis
If there are widespread boycotts by fans of the involved clubs I don't see how it can get very far. Yes, a lot of their money comes from TV deals and plastic bandwagoners in Asia, but can these clubs really afford the reputational damage of playing in stadiums every week that are only a quarter full? Exactly this, id imagine Leicester are pretty much there to stay, Everton are pushing them and we all know that our owners mean business, there could be a big 10 in 5/6 years and thats bad for the scum6. Imagine how ridiculous it would be though if some of the scum6 were routinely finishing mid table or worse and yet were playing in that league, ridiculous. Seat68
Organiser of new league looks down and saw Ossie Ardiles and Ricky Villa. Yes, these Tottington hotspurs, they are very big team. We shall have them. But Sir, thats a 1982 Shoot annual, things may have changed. Silence! Bring me the tottington, and also the Gunmens!

Only place Labour can go is further than whatever the government suggests. Grind these owners into the dirt.

That scuppers the new super league - by making the CL have the same rules. (Effectively the UK big 6 will always qualify) And that's the proposal that these twelve clubs decided didn't do enough for them! This Super league is a reaction to that not going far enough for them.

flamingsombrero
As much as I hate this, so much of what it is purported be destroying in football is already long dead.

bannedfromHandV
If the PL kicked them out immediately we’d be 5th, in the eternal words - make it so.

If the government enforces rules around this the club values will go down, the books will need to be properly analyzed. We can't sell the stadium to ourselves and fiddle the books. There's absolutely nothing better for football than if clubs are crowd-funded at least partially. Bayern and BVB are both known for being class, have great academies and essentially run themselves with their own profits. They're healthy financially. That would be lovely, but you're expecting the most capitalist party in British political history to suddenly embrace socialism in order enforce part nationalisation of private companies through a legal mechanism. It's a nice idea, but I am not expecting this duck to moo.

penguin
Such a bizarre time to announce it. I wonder if the thinking is it's easier for them to boot them out of the existing competitions if it was done once they were concluded. Are they going to have the stones to remove these clubs from their respective leagues and the Champions League whilst they are on-going?

The more I think about it, the more I think it could be a good thing. Look at football right now. Look at the kick off times (Covid aside). Look at VAR. Look at the money in the game. It's all just a circus tbh. We've all been calling for 'the big reset' for a number of years and this is the perfect opportunity for it. Throw the 6 clubs out of the PL, promote 6 from the Championship or something similar and start again. It honestly doesn't bother me if Villa are playing Rotherham or Arsenal, I'll enjoy the spectacle regardless. Ban the breakaway clubs. Let them go and play in front of 50,000 people in Qatar on a Tuesday morning, live on China's number 1 streaming network. Reset. Reimagine. Bring the game back to the people. Premier League are just as greedy. They'll never kick them out. Just look at how much air times and attention the likes of Sky and BT are giving the big 6 compared to the rest. It has never been an equal footing and never will be. Do you realize how much money they would lose if they banned them from the league? This ain't happening. They'll come with their empty threats to try and stop SL but the SL will simply tell them to f*** off and the Premier League will eventually give in. Money destroyed the game.
