Summer transfer window 2021

Would Thiago Mendes not be an option?

Was on bench for Lyon today and we obviously did business with them last summer. Was really good at Lille and made the Brazil squad a couple of times.

Honestly think a year's loan for experienced player in 28-30 range wouldn't be a bad option as we've obviously missed out on our main target Ward Prowse and now we seem to be looking at projects in 20-25 year old range so would rather get an experienced head in for what is key position and then look again next summer.

I’m not against loans but it is a sub optimal solution, I’d rather buy someone younger especially for the two positions we need there are so many players that could vastly improve us.

I am crazy depressed at the thought of this.

I feel like we are messing up a big chance.

Let’s just wait and see… no point getting despondent or downbeat before the end of the window. I suspect things will be heating up shortly for most clubs, it’s always the case that most business or “frenzy time” occurs near the end of the window. The dominos always fall late… (does that even make sense? 😆)

What's the big chance we are messing up?

I'd like to see us sign a DM. But I also understand that it might not happen this window. Even if we did I'm not sure it would take us to Europe. Will take a while for this new attack to gel.

My wish list:

Kamara & Kamada

But I would take an alternative to Kamara such as Sangare, Doucoure, Anguissa…

There are some excellent DMs out there that can be signed for good value but the question is, does Dean want to line up with a specialist player like that or does he prefer the hardworking, tenacious, more all round types? We can only wait and see.

I’ll be satisfied and hopeful on whatever he decides… he has more of a clue than any of us do.

Tbf, we have more than enough CMs or box to box players in the squad.

Hopefully, Hourihane will leave soon and I have no objection to selling Nakamba if we can get an upgrade in… selling or loaning out players would suggest we intend to bring in better, maybe we’re just waiting to finalise outgoings before we deal with any further incomings…

Stipe Biuk is a cracking young left winger from Croatia - this is the sort of signing I expect this window

Interesting player. I had the pleasure of seeing him up close a few years ago with the Croatian U17 national team at a U17 tournament. Croatia is, once again, loaded with young talented players (Most of us already know of Gvardiol and Sucic (a guy I'd throw 20M at right now with no hesitation), but also guys like Jakov Anton-Vasilj, Tomislav Duvnjak, Ivan Saranic, Ivan Cubelic, Roko Simic, Filip Braut and Gabriel Vidovic to name a few from that same age group) . Biuk didn't really stand out (my only memory of him is him diving. He hit ground smiling because he knew he had been caught. It was quite funny honestly). Tricky guy with a lot of pace and a good work rate.

Honestly, every academy should try to sign a couple of Croatians each year.

We have effectively spent nothing in a buyers market, we have a bunch of good players and if we are to make it to the top we need to invest every year.

This is the perfect year to do so.

Maybe we won’t get into Europe, but we can progress on the points total which is all that matters at the end of the day.

if you keep doing that you will end up at the destination you desire.

We need a specialist DCM of a higher quality than Nakamba and as you say there are loads of good ones available.

I feel we need another winger too and to sell El Ghazi, there is also a ton of them, Doku for example

I wouldn't be so quick to sell AEG, he is the leading goalscorer for us since we've been back in the prem. Unless we get over the odds for him there is no reason to sell him, he is a very useful squad player.

He isn't good at all, he offers next to zero to our play.

Granted he scores goals.

Check how many of those goals have won us points or secured results, thus your first sentence seems odd. He won't command a huge fee, he seems happy to be a part of our squad, he scores at a lot compared to his minutes played, is excellent at penalties.... He's decent and decent enough for our squad

That's fine, goals win points.

MY wide forwards are there to add to all aspects of creation and to chip in with goals.....

All he does is the goals.

I'm not too worried about another attack-minded player immediately unless Dean is fibbing about the severity/length of all these injuries... oh wait. 🤡

I am very, very worried about ball retention in midfield, though. Whether CM or DM, if we don't pick up someone who can actually keep and use the ball better, we're going to have the same old problems. Just heaps unnecessary pressure on us for long spells of every match. Really hope there's some substance to the Rafinha rumour, even if just a loan.

Doesn’t Kamara fit our transfer strategy or profile perfectly? I’d be shocked if he wasn’t on some kind of shortlist…

Already so good at just 21, massive potential, value will rise incredibly, can be bought for a bargain fee… will fit into the team too and should be ready to make an impact…

Knows and has played with Sanson and they can help each other settle… BT’s there to land a hand too as another French speaker… (ooh friends!).

But maybe we feel we don’t need such a player and that we have plenty of midfielders as is… would be an excellent signing for us though… we can replace and sell Nakamba and move Conor out ASAP…

Tend to agree, if we decide to sell will be because a bid has come in for him and we have a replacement identified.

There seems to be this underlying transfer policy that we now need to be able to shift a player on before we can buy, whether Nakamba, AEG, Hourihane etc…

Not saying that we won’t purchase another player without selling, the right player may become available, just the preferable option for the club.

I absolutely wouldn't be selling AEG unless we have another top quality winger come up. Yes, he's a limited player at this level but he finds ways to score. Perfect super sub if we need a goal late in a game. Certainly not to be thrown away.

I'm happy with our attacking setup, i'd be focusing on that midfield at the moment.

It's all gone very quiet.

I just can't believe we're not looking to strengthen further having received all that Gresford cash. Especially after being linked so strongly with ESR and JWP all summer.

FFP and the fact NSWE have been propping us up for as long as they've been here. I wouldn't be surprised if we sell another couple of big hitters over the next couple of seasons.

Trying to make us self-sustaining in the short term runs against their strategic objectives of reaching Europe ASAP.

They could turn the taps off, but it wouldn’t make sense - yet.

I imagine another midfielder will come in. Don’t see the clamour for a DM, think that idea has just spiralled and embedded itself into this forum.

Though that said, our squad is pretty decent and I expect us to push on, anywhere between 6th and 9th I imagine this season.
