I was amazed he didn't go on strike when Arsenal came in for him, loads of players would've done so credit to him and that's why if he wants to move on in the near future I'm o.k with it as he's probably given us a couple more seasons than we would expect given he was bench warming for long spells not so long ago.

Keyblade
10 hours ago, VillaChris said: There was a thing at Arsenal when Sanson was seen throwing a water bottle in anger at not coming on when we were 3-0 down. Just checked Soccerbase and he was absent from DS final two matches, 4-1 loss v West Ham and 1-0 v Southampton. Perhaps he picked up another injury but I'm sure it was debated a fair bit here (not going to go through 300 pages just now) he'd been left out for disciplinary reasons. We lost DS final five games with some really poor midfield performances so that would've been a good time to give him a run but I think DS was a little too loyal to someone like McGinn in his final few months (given SJM generally in 2021 was nowhere near the standard he is at currently) and Ramsey was being played more as a central midfield when he broke through so perhaps the space just wasn't there. 2-0 up v Wolves aswell, DS put Nakamba on after 67 minutes and Sanson remained an unusued sub so pretty clear in that period that Nakamba was ahead in the pecking order. He was just coming back from a lengthy injury so at least it was understandable. By the time Gerrard came in he'd been fit for a while so there really was no excuse anymore. He was at the very least a body in a position where we sorely needed them. When Nakamba got injured, that was supposed to be his chance, but he was nowhere to be seen. QldVilla Posted February 23 VT Supporter Share Posted February 23 It’s funny how so many fans jump on players backs without knowing all the facts, then down the track they hear all that occurred and they have sympathy for the player. The narrative on here was three managers had a look at him and didn’t rate him, when it wasn’t actually the case.

Gerrard was always a charlatan, and Smith never got the chance to play him. By the time Emery came in, our ships were too far apart for him to come on board. Gerrard was a fraud but I can kind of understand this one. If a player has said they are open to leaving if the club accepts a bid in the summer should you be starting them over players that are going to be playing all season and are the future of the club? As soon as the window closed and he signed a new deal he started every game. As for Sanson, I’m pretty sure he fell out with Smith as well as Gerrard. It’s a shame he didn’t want to stick around under Emery. Edited February 24 by Vive_La_Villa
Ceemo
So the conditions of the loan to Nice to make it permanent have now been met. https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2024/morgan-sansons-move-from-aston-villa-to-ogc-nice-made-permanent/ Looks to be about €4 million (£3.44 million). Signed for £14 million in January 21, with another year year left on the contract, Villa will probably make a small profit on his book value. Just 23 games he played for the club scoring just once in the infamous defeat against Stevenage. Quote OGC Nice’s slender 1-0 victory over Le Havre AC not only guaranteed Le Gym qualification for European football for next season, it also confirmed Morgan Sanson’s (29) permanent transfer to the Ligue 1 club. Ever since joining Nice on a loan deal from Aston Villa, Sanson’s intentions have been clear. “Yes, of course [I want to stay]. Florent Ghisolfi has said the same thing that he wants me involved in the project for the long term. Even if there is a permanent option with clauses that are very much attainable, I think I’ll be here for a while. I will do everything to ensure that the option is triggered,” Sanson told Get French Football News back in December. The loan deal taking Sanson to the Allianz Riviera contained conditions that would see the move become permanent. As revealed by L’Équipe, there were two conditions that needed to be met in order for the €4m purchase option to become an obligation. Both have now been met. The first stipulated that the Frenchman compete in over half of Nice’s matches this season. This condition was met many weeks ago. The second stipulated that Nice finish in the top eight in Ligue 1, which following Friday night’s victory over Le Havre, is now also assured. The deal taking Sanson from Aston Villa to Nice has therefore been made permanent.

Keener window-cleaner
All the best to Sanson. It's great to see that he strives in the French league, like he did before. He was a bit of a strange signing, it didn't seem like we knew how he would fit into the system we played. And then, the simple fact to me is that he did not cope with the tempo and physicality in the Premier League. One can blame injuries, but that is quite often what happens with players who don't cope with the PL. He didn't seem to be injured that much when he played in Marseille before coming to us and not so much now when he went back to the French league. When he played he got outmuscled quite much and wasn't good enough to compensate that with talent. Under other circumstances, where he slowly could be bedded in and adapt step by step who knows, he is clearly a good footballer, but most probably he is simply one of a large bunch of players who wasn't suited to the PL. Many similarities to Jordan Veretout.

Villatillidie95
Sanson would have been awesome to have in the squad for the conference league games, even prior to the injuries we had. Cant help but feel so much disappointment that we are only getting 4 mil from An obviously cultured and competent midfielder
