It was really beneficial for the club to have this game go ahead

How often do you get to see your young up and coming players compete against a top team with world class players in a (proper) competitive game

The management and coaching staff will be really pleased as they did very well

Barry looks ready for a shot in the first team imo

Encouraging times my Lord

You think too much mate. Take it easy.

He’s right though to some extent.

Population is growing, expanding into and exploring areas of the world that haven’t had human interaction yet and and now the chances, due to climate change and melting of permafrost soil, of being exposed to deadly bacteria and viruses that have been dormant and absent for thousands/millions of years.

Despite COVID-19 killing almost two million people worldwide so far it has a low mortality rate.  You only need something that is a degree more and suddenly we are talking ten of millions of deaths, a bit further we are talking hundreds of millions or worse.

It’s hard to take it easy when people we know are suffering and dying.  It’s hard to know that despite how quickly we have got a vaccine, it’s still likely 12 months from start of spread to now before we can get the vaccine.  It’s hard because we were slightly lucky this wasn’t more deadly than it was, the next time might not be so lucky.

I know a downer but due to population expansion, exploring and climate change the next few decades are badly exposed to something like this.  Until our medical technology can catch up and vaccines can be created and distributed to near days or weeks we are exposed.

Going out of the FA Cup will actually help us with the Spurs postponement - we now have a number of additional free dates in which to reschedule the game. it's unlikely that Spurs will reach the finals of both the FA Cup and Europa league, so we'll just need them to behave like grown ups, show a bit of patience and rearrange once they're out of one cup or another.

Ideally, they draw a very good side in the next round and we can play them on the 5th round date after they're knocked out.

“Behave like grown ups” ? What about Mourinho or Levy makes you think that either is remotely capable of doing that?

Hopefully they get knocked out of one / both soon, but I’m sure we will have some mourinho inspired media push about how this will totally detail their season etc etc which we will have to listen to for the next month with barely a mention of how this will affect the villa squad / backroom Team and their families.

Aston Villa are working extensively with The FA to fulfil Wednesday's Premier League fixture with Tottenham.

Villa are set to host Spurs in three days' time on Wednesday, January 13 before Everton are set to travel to Birmingham just three days later on Saturday (January 16).

Smith's first-team squad have continued to isolate since last week's bombshell announcement surrounding 14 positive tests, which include five members of staff. Villa's players and staff were first tested on Monday (January 4); they trained together on Tuesday (January 5) before results came through on Wednesday (January 6) where a number of the nine players tested positive.

Those with negative tests were tested again on Wednesday (January 6) with a small number of positive tests coming back once more on Thursday (January 7) to take Villa's total to nine players affected prior to the cup clash with Liverpool.

BirminghamLive understands that players who tested negative on Monday (January 4) are in line to play against Tottenham on Wednesday (January 13) following a period of 10 days in self-isolation from when their Covid test was taken, as per UK government guidelines.

The small number of players who eventually made up Villa's total of nine off the back of positive tests on Wednesday (January 6) will miss the fixture against Spurs, subject to that game going ahead as the club awaits Premier League confirmation.

The likes of Louie Barry and those who impressed against Liverpool last week are in line to make up Smith's squad on Wednesday, again subject to Villa being able to field a 20-man squad consisting solely of those who have tested negative following another round of testing over the weekend.

Villa do, though, have concerns surrounding preparation for the Spurs fixture given the fact the training ground has been closed with the entirety of the first-team squad isolating at home. A decision on the fixture - which has been chosen for live Sky Sports TV coverage - is expected to be made on Monday (January 11). Saturday's game against Everton is also in doubt but, as it stands, seems more likely to go ahead than the Spurs fixture.

God this is going to derail our progress isn't it...

Typical Villa luck.

Surprised they haven't referred the whole situation to VAR in order for it to rule against us in the worst way.

Yeah have started to watch that.  Somebody mentioned I should after I had a conversation similar to my post and so I have started to watch it.

I got into the subject a few years back based on something I saw around the ice caps melting, which led me to humans exploring new places for the first time in South America that may have viruses that could be deadly to us and then parts of Africa having similar potential issues for humanity.

Fascinating subject but very scary and despite scientists and experts talking about it, never really got the exposure to the common person before apart from people starting to getting grip on climate change impact.  Starting to get exposure now since COVID-19.

Will continue to watch Fortitude though just for light entertainment as well

Apparently we agreed to the Liverpool game.

We should NOT agree to this one.

Either all teams should be forced to play as long as they can scrap up 14 players or no team should be forced to play who has Covid issues in their squad on more than just the odd player.

The PL said that 14 players was the rule and they should have stuck with that. They didn't and thus we nor any other team should be forced to play. Even if it means that some of the bigger clubs get a even sillier schedule.

The PL is a joke league with their VAR and their handling of this.

F**k it. 6 points lost and unlikely to beat city so call it 9.

Hopefully all players are fit and ready for Burnley and we can have a strong second half to the season.

If we play with a scratch team of kids and some of the first team but play with the same fortitude and resolve as the kids did on Friday night we could still get something out of the next two games. Either way we can gain respect from large chunks of the general football world. Additionally we will confirm what we already have known for a long time that Mourinho is a classless nerk who works for an equally classless nerk. The precedent will be set and  woe betide Spurs if they try to get games called off because Harry Kane has stubbed his toe.

You can buy flashy footballers and flashy stadiums but you can’t buy class.

Or postpone Spurs and Everton, beat Man City and then beat Spurs and Everton later in the year.
