Nikki grahames died at 38 of anorexia

Very sad. She'd been ill for a while and sounds like she'd always struggled with eating disorders.

An early reality tv star, before they all became so self obsessed.

Just saw that.  Early series of Big Brother seemed like fun at the time but on reflection it's spawned a whole genre of TV I wish didn't exist.

She was mad as a box of frogs from the moment she went in there mind.

Another thing that makes me feel old.  15 years ago that was.

I loved the early Big Brother shows. Genuinely fascinating TV. I used to watch the live feeds on E4 :D

I watched the early series, it was kind of before it was a ticket to celebrity (and hence people acting up to it).
It was people being quite natural.

Absolutely. The people came from normal jobs, like builders or mortgage advisors, or sales people. It was a genuine insight into how people act when put in with a group of strangers. The whole 'Nasty Nick' showdown in season 1 was brilliant TV.

By the end, the people chosen to enter the house were just fame hungry and from the extremes of society. People were chosen in order to conflict with others.

Pretty much this.

The phrase "stop making stupid people famous" comes to my mind. Jade Goody, Princess Nikki (and many more) got on my norks with their behaviour. Perhaps that was the whole point and what the tv people wanted but I'm more annoyed with the sheep that fuelled their "stardom".

The first couple of series, fine...it was a novelty and participants went in as themselves and didn't play up to the camera as much. I even remember the first winner - a scouse handyman called Craig.

Although, I'd argue with @Xelaabout some of the ordinary jobs; i mean....sales...aren't they mostly words removed ? 😉

Never watched Big Brother , probably never will , thus I have no idea who this woman that just died is ...

I have heard of Jade Goody as she was front page news for being a racist ...

must confess I did watch Big Brother in Hungary when I lived there ...mainly because they decided to bring a porn star in to sleep with one of the contestants , who basically did a vinegar stroke followed by an apology as it had “been a while” what with being in a house for about 3 weeks  .... next day they invited his long term girlfriend into the house after he’d just humiliated her on national tv and she started slapping him in the face as you’d expect  ... all of this in a language I understood about 1 word in every 400 ...

She was bat shit crazy and fame hungry, on the show to "make it" from memory she wasn't the first dickhead on the show but she was one of the first blatantly obvious make a living out of the show contestants which started me hating that show and others, finished 5th and became a millionaire from it getting all kinds of deals and other shit TV work

If they had any sort of care for the mental well being of contestants she would never have been allowed on

But oh how we all laughed at her breakdowns!!!!!!

The first big brother was a relatively genuine social experiment, everything that’s followed since has been shite including every version of BB since the original one.

VT, always the goto place for us second language folk to learn something new. 👌

A classic British phrase! Often shortened to 'vinegars'!

"Just as I hit the vinegars, her Mom walked in on us*"

I wouldn't have said Nikki was fame hungry? Or Jade? I just think they were generally ignorant and that was their real personality. I as surprised to see that Nikki was in BB7, didn't realise i watched that many of them. It was the last one I watched though.

BB3 still provides one of the funniest moments - Bubble's fall!

I'm sure 7 was the last I watched too, had to look it up and it was nikki and the guy with tourettes and another guy with depression who I felt just shouldn't have been there and then Imogen Thomas and I thought nikki was fame hungry, win or lose she was going to make a career out of BB, it was also the one where they let a load of them back in and it just became pointless which might also be where my opinion of nikki comes from, she was booted out then when back in almost like they were lining her up for stuff regardless of what the public thought of her
