This is the real benefit of having JT on the payroll.  As a player, JT's reading of the game was world class.

priceless.

Bet he has a few ideas on who to target in the transfer market too - I’d love to see who’s on Craig’s list

I can just imagine Dean sneakily sliding it out of his back pocket, slyly having a peek and slipping it back.😀

I could imagine Gail Platt coming out with such cringe.

Just watched his interview on Villa TV. Had no idea he was a local and a Villa fan as well. Seems like another calm head, very good with the media.

Yeah I just watched it too.

I'm confident he will add something to us in terms of an extra-pair of eyes in seeing things happening on the pitch during a game and on the training pitch.

Shakespeare is a great coach and hopefully the players can improve to get an extra few percent from them. We also have an extra week of preparation which is massive for us!

UTV.

If you think about our senior coaches, O’Kelly had never coached at PL level until this year, nor had Smith, and Terry although played at the top level is very new to coaching. I’m really pleased we have an experienced coach in Shakespeare who has done it in the PL and been around for a long while.

I'm sure he's good at what he does, but my word, that was one of the most boring interviews I've ever heard.

Didn't know having charisma and sass in abundance was a precursor for been a good coach. Maybe you were expecting obafemi style celebrations as he was been interviewed also ? To be honest, i think these interviews with coaching staff,  academy manager etc aren't necessary. Smith has media obligations as head coach, that's different but i don't need to hear from Terry, Cutler, O'Kelly and Shakespeare. Villa media side go a bit OTT on this.  The work will speak for itself on the pitch and trust me if we got hockeyed and have a terrible start you won't be caring about boring interviews, and vice versa if we start well.

How have you managed to come to that conclusion based on what I posted? Some incredible mental gymnastics there.

Saying it was boring - implying you wanted a more entertaining, engaging personality, no ?

Seems like a good addition to the team.

However, I think we are still light in one vital area: striker coach.  If I'm not mistaken, our manager and all our coaches played in defence or midfield. I think we could use the insight of an inventive specialist striker coach to try and take all our strikers up a notch.

Any former Villa strikers who might fit the bill? The good ones I can think of would be too old!

O’Kelly used to be a striker and works with the forwards. I agree though, think we could do with someone better or more specialised.

Former strikers? Can’t think of many good ones or those that would be available... Dublin? Angel? Saunders?
