So, you **** better deliver now, Villa. Make sure I have to eat the worlds biggest humble pie. I'd very much enjoy every spoonful. Same as the above. Since we drew with the cabbage I have been resigned to relegation. Even after the win at palace I was sure we were going down. The late goal by Walcott confirmed we were relegated. There was no hope. None. Now suddenly by some miracle if we can win one measly game versus a side coached by gollum we can win the premier league next season. Some turnaround.

Popular Post John
Games don't get much bigger than this one. There are “must win” games, but this is a “must at least draw, if Watford do” game. Should they win, it becomes a “we must beat West Ham by a margin of only one goal less, than they beat Arsenal by” game. If Bournemouth win, it could become a “must at least draw” game. Or to simplify things, and I think we need to, we could just win at West Ham! It is in our hands, so let us not let safety slip from our grasp now. Arsenal have an FA Cup final to play on the following Saturday, so they may be tempted to rest players. Hopefully, they will be sufficiently reluctant to go into that cup final on the back of two successive defeats and to lose their final home game of the season, to gift wrap the match for Watford. Everton had already looked to be on the beach, until their win at Sheffield United and their late equalizer against us, but they are unbeaten at home this year and should therefore be loath to surrender that record to Bournemouth. Looking at recent form, Watford have lost a manager and their last two league games. Bournemouth have also lost their last two games. Watford have taken 7 points since the restart and Bournemouth 4. We are unbeaten in and have won two, of our last three games. We have taken 9 points since the restart. I would love it, if our fellow claret & blues, took their foot off the pedal now that they are safe, but there was not much sign of that at Old Trafford. They are most welcome to rest players such as Antonio, Rice, Bowen, and their ageing leader Noble, for this one. I doubt that they will though, and I suspect that Moyes will have them up for this one, if only to improve his chances of still being there himself next season. Like us, our hosts are also unbeaten in their last three games. We will need to fight like lions once more, to get what we will need from this game. A defeat might not send us down, if Watford and Bournemouth both lose, but we cannot rely on that happening. A draw would be more likely to see us safe, but one or both of our fellow relegation candidates might get an unlikely win, so again, we would be anxiously looking at other results and fearful of someone grabbing a late winner. Its in our hands, if we win nobody can catch us and we will be playing Premier League football next season. In 1981, we travelled to London for our last game of the season and lost, but we still got what we wanted on the day. This time lets win down there and by doing so, not give our fellow strugglers any chance of pulling off their own final day escape. We last won at West Ham in 2011. Since then, we have lost two and have drawn twice on our visits to East London. We played out a goalless draw when we met at Villa Park in September. Overall, we have won 34 and have drawn 32 of the 101 league games, that there have been between the two clubs. A Villa win on Sunday would even things up nicely! This will be our last cup final this season. Against the odds and against many of our expectations, we have taken our relegation fight to the final game and our survival hopes are realistic. We will even start the final day as the favourite of the three relegation threatened clubs to survive. But, as the final day of the Championship showed, surprises can happen, when last day nerves are in play. Let us take our unbeaten run to four on Sunday. Let us get a third win and a third clean sheet from our last four games too. What a strong finish to the season that would be and what a great escape it would represent. It would be nice if we were able to watch the game, without our nerves being shot to pieces during the 90 minutes and particularly towards the end of the game. Just win this one for us Villa! 14

I think their overall mental strength and focus can't really be in doubt IMO. The last game, they were all properly on it so to speak. They need to carry this on for only 90 minutes more for what would be the great escape to the max. It's one thing performing a great escape with home support pushing you on, we were 7 points and dead and they still lifted themselves to give us a chance & did this to in empty stadiums, that can't be underestimated. I was mentally finished when the equalizer went in in the 87th minute a week or so ago. I almost cried, it was devastating. They'll do for me at the moment, mentally I don't think they can do anymore. Edited July 24, 2020 by Amsterdam_Neil_D

VillaJ100
I do worry about Watford in that in football a result can just drop out of the sky when least expected. Also they will think if we can beat Arsenal then they can. I think Bournemouth will pick up a point. West Ham have been turd most of the season but seem to be clicking now. I just hope the relief of staying up means they relax. I can see us getting a point there ordinarily but thn just hope Watford don't win as that Deeney's mug gloating would be too much Edited July 24, 2020 by VillaJ100

nepal_villan
One additional advantage we may have going into the last round of matches is that West Ham will not be desperate for 3 points, thus I can see both teams settling for a draw in the final minutes if Watford are losing to Arsenal. Also Burnley not losing to Brighton helps, as BHA are competing against West Ham for 15th spot - which is worth an additional GBP 3M or so
