This one of the reasons why no team has bid for them yet. The articles that came out yesterday detailed Bremen wanting 20m euros. Leicester probably want to sell ihenacho to get Edouard and Vardy just signed a anew deal. So I'm not convinced by Leicester's reported interest. What we are talking about is perspectives, as all these fees are speculation. I find most fees end up in reality to be less than what gets reported, particularly when compared to earlier speculation. It means one of a few things: We're either trying our best to go after targets previously though of as "unrealistic" (Rashica, McKennie, Edouard, etc.) Clubs are trying to rob us with hilariously overpriced fees for their players (Watkins, Benrahma, etc.) We're holding off until deals start flying later on in the window to see how much player availability changes. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I have a story about this and have never shared this before on here and I expect dissenters, but I think I am the original initiator of the "[5] chairs at the press conference" statement: Back in 2007 I used to participate on the official Villa forum, it was pretty active back then, in fact Julie B and Villa Shelley used to be on there too. I was also an infrequent user of this forum, heroes and villans and also 100% Villa. Anyway, in the first MON/Lerner Summer, we all got excited and there was lots of talk about new signings, and just prior to the Nigel Reo-Coker press conference some one on the forum said there was a press conference being set up and I replied "yeah, I've heard there are 5 or 6 chairs, its going to be multiple unveilings" as a joke to stoke the frenzy, there was a few of us that were always on the wind up that window. Now I had never seen this phrase prior to this and when I checked on other forums they were all quoting 'an ITK in the Official Villa Forum saying there were multiple chairs set out behind the press conference table, expect several signings...' and it ran rampant. Of course we only unveiled NRC, but it is now a transfer window folk lore phrase in these circles. Might be coincidence but I'm staking my claim. *sadly the official villa forum is long dead so I can't substantiate it! Someone came up to me in the office, a fellow Villa fan, getting all excited and i was taken in a little as well. Anyway, i thought it was quite creative and always remember it as probably being the most amusing bit of transfer BS i'd heard and as you can see i still joke about it now.
