Was just going to see if anyone would take Ayoze Perez from Newcastle, but have just seen that Leicester have had a £30m bid accepted for him. Blimey.

I have always looked at him as a fanny merchant.  Looks too weak to me so no!

So. Today is the day we have a mass unveiling of Wesley, Mings, Butland and Phillips.

Should be good.

They did Wesley yesterday, so might just be Mings, Butland and Phillips... still, not bad for a washout Wednesday

Today is the day when we'll see training photos. Don't think we'll see anything beyond that.

With all the clubs heading back to training though (at least those who have not been on international duty), we may start to get clues from players at other clubs who "have not turned up to training".

So my friend seems to think we are back in with an offer for Mings which is "appeasing"

Are we waving the bid on a piece of paper at Bournemouth Airport? :)

1030 and zero rumours about possible signings, I think we can write today off guys as "delphino'd" :)

Agreed.

Can we have a VT dictionary definition of being "Delphino'd" arranged too?

Technically used it wrong though.

Plethora is 'too much' not 'lots of'.

i.e. you can have a plethora of dog shit but you cannot have a plethora of naked 20 year old swimsuit models.

Wrong:

Plethora: a large or excessive amount

Could he mean a large number? I think so.

Could 5 signings in 1 day be seen as excessive? Possibly.

They say a plethora amount of anything can kill you, even water.

'I pushed my seat right up before the most insolent gazer, a short fat man, with a plethora of cravat round his neck, and fixing my gaze on his, gave him more gazes than he sent.'

That's how Hermann Melville uses the word plethora.

I can't see Phillips happening myself. They don't want to sell, he doesn't seem over anxious to leave and the price mentioned is prohibitive.

I would be very happy if we did get Tyrone and Butland done, sooner rather than later.

Does anyone think that we might have any chance of bringing in Erick Pulgar of Bologna who apparently has a 12m euro release clause? He's a Chilean 25 year old defensive midfielder, who might possibly represent an alternative to Phillips.

Has he played champion's league because that was only thing that got Wesley over the line

https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/9421667/aston-villa-egypt-mahmoud-trezeguet/

Quote

DEAN SMITH wants Egypt’s highly-rated winger Mahmoud Trezeguet to bolster his Aston Villa attack.

The Egyptian could be on his way to Villa Park in an £8million deal.

Smith wants to add another creative wide-man to operate on the opposite flank to Jota, who he snapped up for £4million from neighbours Birmingham City last month.

The Villa boss has already had an £8.9m bid for Brentford’s Algerian winger Said Benrahma rejected by the Bees.

However SunSport can reveal Smith has turned his attention to another North African raider, with Egypt’s Mahmoud Trezeguet now top of his wish-list after impressing Villa scouts at the African Cup of Nations.

Trezeguet picked up the nickname, aged nine, because his coach thought the high-scoring youngster bore a striking resemblance to the former Monaco and Juventus scoring legend, who struck gold at the 1998 world cup with France.

Nowadays Mahmoud operates as a winger for Turkish side Kasimpasa, where he scored nine goals in 29 league games last season to attract serious interest from Galatasaray, Italian giants Inter Milan and Slavia Prague.

However it is his form at the AFCON Cup with Mo Salah’s Pharaohs which has alerted Smith after the experienced 24-year-old impressed for the tournament hosts.

Trezeguet made an instant impression, grabbing the only goal of the game in Egypt’s opening day win over Zimbabwe.

Since then he has helped Egypt cruise through to the last 16, finishing top of Group A with a 100% record.

Trezeguet also has a useful ally in Villa’s Egyptian full-back Ahmed Elmohamady who has been urging Smith to take a look at his talented international teammate for some time now.

Villa will follow up that glowing recommendation by having their representatives in Cairo on Saturday to watch the 41-times-capped winger in action during Egypt’s first knockout round tie.

Trezeguet has previously played for Anderlecht and Mouscron in Belgium but never settled there, due to his inability to master the language.

However he has matured since his move to Turkey and has gained huge experience, appearing in all three of Egypt’s world cup group games in Russia last summer.

Villa will assess Trezeguet this weekend and Smith could bid shortly afterwards with a £8million offer being lined up.

From his Wiki it says Trezeguet has a 5m Euro release clause that was triggered by Prague but he decided to remain with Kasimpasa.

Might have signed a new contract I guess but £8m seem a bit unnecessary if we could get him for 5m Euro.

Edit: Wiki being Wiki so might be bs of course.

Id say there is a good change we are in for Trezeguet, simply because our owner Nassef Sawiris is Egyptian.  If i was him i'd want a top player from my home country playing for my team if he was available.  Think of all the Kudos it would bring to Sawiris and his family back home.

But we already have Egypt's Captain and joint top goalscorer from the Africa Cup of Nations on our team!
