Fantastic to see Sanson and Guilbert involved and looking happy. The french speaking contingent pictured here can all play a pivotal part in our season!

i seem to recall from social media posts from fred that when digne was at everton him and guilbert socialised a fair bit including their families

it must be so much better for fred now. no one to speak to in his first season as pretty sure he would've been the only french speaker and don't think he speaks much english. to now have at least 5 at the club inc bertie it will definitely make things easier for him

That's a great point, being alone in the squad and playing week in week out for a big club with huge fanbase expectations in the prem every week would have been a lot to take on whilst settling into a new country with a young family. Genuinely think and hope we will see him and sanson regularly this season and it will be like having 2 new players for us.

How did he do?

Had a couple good moves while also looking a bit out-of-sync at times, but didn't really have much to do all things considered. Second half was extremely disjointed with all the changes, stoppages and the style of play completely shifting to studs-to-ankle combat in the centre circle, so the fullbacks weren't really able to get as involved as in the first. Plus, with Ings up top on his own and no width at all, there were no overlaps on and nobody to cross to. First half, Bailey and Coutinho were dragging their fullbacks all over, giving Cash and Digne tons of room to get forward.

Not great can’t see him being in this seasons plans tbh

He works so hard but just not at the level we expect.

So you think we need to buy a new back up RB?

Second string are always going to look worse when they only play with second string players - almost all of them are good enough to deputise for where we are aiming for in the next year or so. Guilbert would look much better in a full strength side deputising for Cash than he does linking up with Nakamba, Sanson and A Ramsey. Same goes for those three too.

Let’s just wait for him to get settled and used to playing with these players again and in a new style compared to when he left. It’s a pre season friendly and they’ve been together 2 weeks. No need to write him off or declare him the second coming of Cafu either way just yet.

Yeah, any player would have struggled to impress in that second half anyway. The game was a mess.

Why is Guilbert not wanting to be back up and going out on loan instead of sticking around and fighting for a place ok as he is a “character” but Targett doing the same means he is a snake pos?

I think we probably already have enough cover within the squad for the odd missed game for Cash but if he has a long term injury Guilbert isn’t the answer, Chambers and konsa can deputise, don’t think anyone from the youth team are deemed ready yet though.

I'd much rather have Guilbert as cover at RB than use Konsa or Chambers.

100%, hes an actual right back. Not sure what the obsession is with Chambers playing anywhere but centre back.

I wouldn’t, Guilbert was a championship buy when we expected to be in that league. I trust the coaching staff on this one, if he is in the squad for the coming season fair enough but I really doubt he will be.

Fair enough I wouldn’t.

Considering what the full backs are expected to do in this system I think both Konsa and Chambers would be just terrible choices. Not saying Guilbert will be a great alternative but more suited than them at least.

I think an injury to Cash forces a change in tactics
