Popular Post terrytini
In all my years as a Villa fan I don’t ever recall so many premature Posts on so many different areas of Team. A few have been way over the top, ludicrously so, whilst others have, on the surface, seemed more reasoned and “ balanced”.....but they share the common factor of being premature. We are little babies in this League. The Team every Single other Team finished above last season, and the Team every single otherTeam will expect to beat, Home or Away. Our first Season back under our greatest Manager, in 1975, saw us get just 1 Point, conceding 8 goals, in our first three games. By the end of October we had 17 Points ( adjusted) from 15 games, scoring 14 goals and conceding 22. Our results That October were 0-0, 1-1, 1-2, 1-1, 1-2 ( League Cup), 0-1( UEFA Cup)....3 draws, 3 Defeats, 4 goals, 7 conceeded. I wonder how many critics of our results so far would tolerate a run like that now ? I don’t suggest some of the points made, whether our perceived lack of strength, or our alleged predisposition to make mistakes, or the lack of goals in his 3 hours from Wesley, etc etc, may not well turn out to be relevant......but I do suggest that in many cases these are just natural consequences of the newness of our position, are perfectly common, and normal, and simply don’t warrant the amount of concern they appear to reflect. Each to their own, but I suspect a re- reading of some of these threads in a couple of months would have the reader wondering what the fuss was about. 5

After all the money we spent, you expect to see result, progression and value from the investment.

Nope m8, its worse than that, we lost 2/2 versus the champions league runners up and a good Bournemouth side, but we are now eating ourselves again and debating when our manager gets the boot cus we just love imploding as a fan base, we also are loving talking about ending the long term club stability plan and supporting our manager, one of our own, and just discussing effing off the manager cus.......why not got nuffin better to whine about cus we arent challenging for the top 6 after spending the value of 1 x Harry Kane in the transfer market. weirdly after the 10 game winning run and the wembley success, i almost forgot how fickle and quick to turn our fan base is. I have been dutifully reminded the last two weeks though, makes me a bit sad tbh. Edited August 22, 2019 by MaVilla

delboy54
Wow, 2 games into the new season and been beaten by a top 6 team and champions league finalists and then taught a lesson by Bournemouth and already some folks are getting twitchy about DS.... Terrytini made a great comment earlier... Come on let's get real here, Villa are learning some harsh lessons in raising their game, the season has just started, fitness and stamina levels increasing. Let's trust the players and staff. We are a long way off the dizzy heights of being a mid table team. Just let's get behind the team and stop bloody whinging... Big fat sam, Moynes, "the special one", Mick McCarthy and Pullis all say hello we want a job......! VTID

It now seems that the team is run as a meritocracy and players have to both earn a place and work hard to keep it. It would be very easy to put the players who we’d spent money on straight into the team. I’m sure sometimes players will be swapped about for tactical reasons and to rest etc. But this sends out the message that everything must be earned and that applies to both new and existing players. Excellent management.

Just for some perspective on this point. Going in to November last year there were 8 teams with less than 10 points after 10 games. it is not uncommon for a whole bunch of teams to have 0/1/2/3 wins after 3 games. Below are the tables after 10 games for each of the last 3 seasons with the teams that ended up going down marked. It isn't panic stations yet 2018/19 2017/18 2016/17 3

Aditionally only roughly 50% of the club's in the bottom 3 after 10 games actually got relegated.
Talldarkandransome
Anyone calling for Dean Smith to be sacked or is unhappy with him really needs to give their head a wobble. Most (roughly) fans would be happy with 17th.. I'm fairly certain Smith won't be, he wants better than that

Mantis
I'm so pleased with what he's doing here. After years of crap football, with brief but failed interludes where we've tried to actually play proper football, we're finally getting with the times.
