I think Luke Organ has played this well. It's a key deal.

I thinks as well that the one year deal reflects on the time we had to find and negotiate a partner - the commercial management side of the club, Luke Organ and the people who negotiated this deal, wouldn't have had as long as they'd have liked to get it in place. It's quite a long process and the team were all new and thrown into the job last season with an awful lot of things to concentrate on. The process of finding and negotiating our next deal has already begun.

Therefore you is? ;)

Mine has to be Mita as i was a Copier engineer at the time and the company i worked for were Mita agents in Brum, As such we had a box in the north stand ideally positioned dead centre of the stand and i had the privilege of spending several evenings in there free of charge!. On one such occasion which i will forever remember (it was a night game against Arsenal) i had the most bizarre night i've ever had at Villa Park.

Firstly we were shocked to see we were sharing the box with the actual head honcho's from Mita, two Japanese guys and as such all of us were given the royalty treatment by the club. I remember they couldn't do enough for us and even had some guy draw amazing hand sketched Caricatures of the two guys from Japan which went down very well.

Then just prior to kick off we were escorted down onto the pitch and walked into the centre circle whilst up on the old electronic score boards was blazoned "WELCOME TO OUR GUESTS FROM MITA"  It was hilarious as at the time i had bright blonde hair and was donning a suit at a distance i guess i must have looked very similar to a certain Gary Shaw (who was out injured at the time) and the Holte end started chanting "Gary Shaw, Gary Shaw, Gaaary Gary Shaw.....When he gets the ball he's bound to score....Gaaary Gary shaw"" At me lol!

Back in the executive box and by halftime i think the Japanese guys had rumbled (from my passionate outbursts throughout the first half) that i was actually a genuine Villa fan and they seemed to like that and started talking to me and shunning the other club entourage and business stiffs who were there trying to impress them (as apparently the sponsorship deal was in the balance and these guys had come over to decide whether to renew it or not) and in pretty broken English they started quizzing me about the club and it was clear they were considering whether to look at sponsoring a London club instead of us as their main interest was promoting the brand in the capital. This i deduced from the questions they were asking. such as

"So is Arsenal in London?"

"Wow lots of Arsenal fans here (As they were at the time directly in front of us when the Witton Lane stand was for away fans only)"

"Do Aston Virra also take fans to away games?" was the next question,..." Oh absolutely" I replied,

"This many?" They asked.. "Oh loads more than this" i replied, "we took way over 10k there the other year"

"Even when play in London?" they asked.... "Oh yes, i said recalling the last time i went to Highbury on the day we won the title in 1981 when there were around 16,000 Villa fans who went with or without tickets (I was one of the ticketless ones so i went into their North Bank with colours on on my own i was so determined to go lol!) I wouldn't recommend it though as there was almost a riot lol but that story for another day :)

"And they all wear the Virra tops with Mita on?" they asked...."Oh yes all over the country, we are the best supported away club there is" i stated

"Really they replied WOW!

Big smiles followed "Thank you very much, they said" and soon they left.

Very soon after the club released a report, it read..."ASTON VILLA ARE DELIGHTED TO REPORT A NEW SPONSORSHIP DEAL WITH MITA" So maybe, just maybe....? lol!

Nice anecdote that - bet you dined out on that one for a while! :)

Like others would prefer a sponsor that isn't a betting company but oh well, hopefully a stepping stone to a bigger, more valuable & more ethical sponsor.

Yeah - this.  And at least they've not used the green logo.

Organ will turn out to be a keyboard member.

Agreed, I think he is the brains of the operation.

Tonight they've tweeted you won't believe what dr Tony has up his sleeve

part of me thinks it's a bit exciting

the cynic in me thinks they're more excited about glen whelan than I am, the bastard in me wonders if a betting company will mug us off during the window because of Tony's activity and cryptic messages
