It is actually 38 from 26 which over a season would get us around 67 points and a top 8 finish. It is not really a true reflection though as he had no preseason and came into a squad on a dire run and a club on the back of years of struggle without an away win for 14 months.

I was hoping that he would have enough of an impact to get us into the play offs but it hasn’t transpired that way but you don’t have to look far to find reasons, beyond simply throwing the manager under a bus, as to why that is the case.

I am supremely confident that off the back of what I expect will be a strong finish to this season and a full pre season we will hit the ground running next year and ultimately be promoted.

As for what we can still achieve this season I think a top 10 finish, putting to bed the dire away form and instilling a wining mentality should all be achievable.

On  reflection I do think for the long term future of our club it's best we don't go up this year as I think we would finish bottom as it stands. One more season as a team and I think once we have the mentality back we will be more prepared for Premier league

Negative nancies. I was quite fair. We drew one game against Brighton in the remaining fixtures :P

Geez i had to manipulate a few things as well to ge that to happen. Thats how unlikely it is.

Dude,

You've turned this into a Bruce v Di M debate which was not my point at all. You keep ignoring the point I'm trying to make. I actually prefer Bruce over Di M.

But the fact remains Bruce had 35 games to get into the play offs and was only what, 8-10 points from 6th when he took over?

You tried to blame di m in your original post. What I'm saying, now pay attention - the run of form of picking up 2 points from a possible 30 is what killed the promotion push. Possibly the worst run of form over 10 games we've had in the last 10 years... but no , lets blame it all on Roberto.

Bruce is extremely lucky the board stuck with him through that abysmal run.

I'm not defending DiM and think he's rubbish, so please dont throw any more stats to prove how snit he was as id only be agreeing with you.. but that won't change the facts ive posted above.

Fair enough I do think di Matteo's start definitely contributed as well as the poor run from January. But I just find with the poor start we were always going to struggle at some stage of season

Does anyone really think we will make the playoffs?

It's only 50/50 because it will either happen or not.

Dig all the optimism but the goalposts have now been moved so that the remaining games are an extention of next seasons preseason

I keep opening this thread to see if anyone now 100% believes we will make it...

Deep down I know its not possible, and it's probably best we have another season to rebuild the club and the team against weaker opposition (albeit not as weak opposition than we anticipated)

Sheffield lose again. Fulham Newcastle to play. A few tricky away games. They gone. Fulham are in the ascendency now.

I always think that at this stage of the season goal difference becomes a pretty good indicator of where teams should be.

We're about right. Fulham should be higher.  Huddersfield and Reading lucky to be where they are - could all still go wrong.

Both Huddersfield and Wednesday obliterated by opponents you'd think they beat on paper.

This league I tell ya.

Hopefully sends Wednesday on a downward spiral, along with other teams.

Win tomorrow and we are 11 points off!

Well depending on Fulhams result of course.

You are probably right, but at least it gives us a little something to be excited about through the run in, as a pose to just being solidified lower - mid table with nothing to play for. (Thought it's arguable thats where we currently are)
