Popular Post dont_do_it_doug.
@Grasshopper Do I think Bruce will want 11 new players, eventually, to complete his squad? Quite probably. I wouldn't say he was wrong. Do I think we need to sign 11 new players this January in order to stand a chance of making the playoffs? No. Should we? Definitely not. That would be bonkers. When will he find the time to integrate these players when we have a game every 3 days? And unless you can ship 11 out, impossible in January, where are you going to put 30 players on a day to day basis? How about another bomb squad? Take Hutton for example. You may not rate him, I don't think he's particularly good, but is he good enough to play for a team 6th in the championship? I think so. Our issue is scoring goals and that is in the main down to a lack of supply from the midfield. A couple of decent signings in midfield and we've a good chance of improving further, but if we can also replace Hutton (as we have the GK) at the managers wishes then great. But wholesale changes of the kind you're talking are not only impossible in January, they're a really really bad idea.

dont_do_it_doug.
Ideally I'd want another 4. A CB, 2 x CM and a LW. Spread throughout the month so as to not cause too much disruption and with at least 3 more outs. I've no idea how viable that is.
jacketspuds
If young players with high potential, like Bree, are available we should be looking to bring them in regardless of our other plans. However, priority for this window has to be 2 midfielders. We need more drive and creativity in the middle to bring out the best in Kodjia and McCormack. Although I would not be against us signing another striker as I can't see Gabby, Kozak or Ayew fitting that position.

dudevillaisnice
Haven't seem him play but looks like the type of signing I want the club to make so happy with it. Even if we don't go up this season we should be much better in terms of the squad next season and I think next season is more likely for promotion with Bruce in charge. Delphinho123
Bree would be a great signing. Definitely an area we need to strengthen and he seems highly regarded. I'm all for this approach.
Phumfeinz
Bree & Lansbury would be two very solid signings for us.
striker Posted January 10, 2017 Visiting Supporter Share Posted January 10, 2017 Reading through this thread in particular it's very clear to see from a fan perspective where Villa need to strengthen and with Villa's mooted interested in Lansbury the manager has also indentified that weakness so both are singing from the same hymn sheet. One would hope Bruce is thinking of more than just one midfielder though as Villa's midfield needs a complete rebuild. I also feel Villa need to invest in another forward. Agbonlahor isn't going to create on his own. He hasn't been prolific even with a better midfield behind him. McCormack isn't really an striker in the true sense of the word and to get the best out of him he needs to play in behind a forward who plays on the shoulder of a defender. So far Bruce has been reluctant to play that way with Kodjia positioned out wide. To me this is one reason why Villa's forwards haven't been firing as they should. So if Bruce is going to persist with Kodjia as a wide forward when he comes back and Agbonlahor is clearly not up to the job of scoring on a regular basis then even with a better midfield in place I think it's imperative that Bruce brings another forward in. Rhodes would be ideal on loan or someone of his ilk just to give Villa a better option than Gabby to make Villa less predicable going forward.

I can't remember him from our trip to Barnsley. If Man City are actually in for him then he might have some potential. More potential than Hutton, who has none. He's been playing for a couple of years in their first team now, keeping experienced heads out the side. Imagine 70's northern looking lad with all the same positive attributes as Amavi, without the fancy name. Not quite on the same level as Amavi was last season, but he's a few years younger than him without any top flight experience. By comparing him to Amavi, I mean to say he's quick, likes to get forward, can put in some delightful crosses but his positional sense needs improving. Happy to throw himself into challenges and close his man down, at least in comparison to Hutton's stand off ball watching tactics. I would say that Bruce perhaps sees a young Elmohamady in this kid, someone who'd look comfortable in a 5-3-2 formation. He has been injured up till October so was out when we played Barnsley, which would be why you don't remember him I'd imagine. Another testament to how good he is, he gets his starting spot back as soon as he's fully fit in a high flying Barnsley side, when he's never played in the championship before. High praise in itself. The manager obviously trusts and has faith in him. I can't think of a good enough cheese joke so I won't bother. Sorry everyone
