Being as they could be 8th when all games jn hand played I hope it puts paid to the 'dream of 4th' in the media

They had the purple patch around October-December when they thrashed us and beat Liverpool and Chelsea but since then their results have been largely poor v anyone but the bottom teams.

Moyes is a bit like MON in that his teams start to get weaker after xmas and just the same happening here, doubt they'll finish top 6. Should just concentrate on europa as that can get them CL.

Declan Rice is an absolute clogger if he ever gets to the Champions League it will be cards galore

You seem to have it in for him constantly whenever he misplaces a pass but generally he's played at a pretty high level for over 12 months now.

Was fine during the euros and I thought today like many times I've seen him he read the play superbly and his passing was generally good crossfield.

Perhaps CL level would be a little too much but he'd certainly improve likes of Man. United and Arsenal.

I just dont see it if I am honest, he is a decent ball winner but thats it. Even for the 2nd goal he looked awkward bringing the ball forward and any pressure from us he would have turned it over. He like Phillips will be found out when they have to step up a level

I think he's a decent mid range passer tbh. Whether that will hold up at the very highest level I don't know.

Think his problem is someone will eventually sign him for 80m + so like Maguire he'll have that hanging over his head and people will expect him to morph into Casemiro/Jorginho/Modric hybrid when obviously he's not that good.

I actually think he'd be a good pick up for Liverpool with likes of Henderson getting on a bit now.

I'm the same, if he goes to a top top side in this £100m move and they have 60%+ possession every week and he's getting 80 touches a game and lots of the ball he's not got the passing and ball retention ability to fit that team

Great off the ball and anticipating and breaking stuff up but not the other side of the position, he's got better at it but I thought when he broke through for England he didn't even show for the ball enough, the game largely bypasses him but now he has phillips looking for the easy 5 yard pass to him 80% of the time he's on the ball

Rice is a good player but he's not a £100m champions league competiting, PL winning player

He'll just morph into a Jordan Henderson then. Remember all the stick he got for Liverpool in his early years there? Just needed a year or two under Klopp and he plays big part in their CL and prem winning teams.

I do wonder if Liverpool would seriously look at Rice with Henderson getting on now and Thiago often injured. Rice as an 8 infront of Fabiano would be interesting.

Different players though, Henderson was an attacking midfielder when Liverpool signed him and has a much better passing range

Liverpool will probably find a better player in a different league for half the price

I think Rice is as good as DM as there is. Watch West Ham decline when hes sold!

At West hams level or obviously ours I'd agree

At the top top level though I don't think teams play with a rice style DM

Rodri, jorghino, even fabinho and then tonali, busquets, casemiro, kimmich are all very different players to rice

Traditional old fashioned DM then yep I see it, what I don't see are top teams playing with a traditional DM

Second rate London club in a ridiculous stadium detached from their geographic area. How have they had this spell of sustained quality? Isn't Sugar and Porno Dwarf a low rent ownership group? Did they go find more backers?

They had a good season last season and a good start to this season, but lately they haven't been doing that well despite beating us, we've actually taken more points than them since Gerrard came in, and we've played a game less than them in that time.

They will probably finish around eighth or seventh this season thanks to their good start, but I don't think they've bulit anything that will see them challenging in these types of positions for years to come, will probably go back to being a midtable team next season.

Frankly, I think they'll keep being around the European places for as long as they can keep Rice, and then fall away afterwards. I confess I don't see what some of you are not seeing in him, I think he's fantastic and there's a very good reason why top teams want to spend very very large amounts of money on him.

Over the last eighteen games ourselves and Newcastle have taken more points than them despite having played less games, Southampton aren't far behind either, they haven't shown top six or seven form for a while now and Rice has played most of those games, he's a good player his passing is crisp and to the point, but their recent relative success has been more down to how they've been playing as a team rather than any individual players, I think their squad is kind of overrated in terms of individuals, but Moyes has got them playing and battling as a team, albeit since before Christmas their form hasn't been that great, midtable form at best, eighteen games is almost half a season.
