Having a natura l lefty playing left back just helps balance. I suspect if Lowton had a left foot he'd still be playing there.

Richardson started ahead of Cissokho in Sherwood's first game so I'm not sure about that.

I think it can't be overstated how important his forward runs and his overall energy are, not just from an attacking point of view. The same can be said of Bacuna too. With Zog and Jack both playing a #10 type role, it didn't really give us much in the way of width, but Richardson and Bacuna getting forward it really forced their wide midfielders to sit back deep. They didn't really have any out ball then.

Will do second half after lunch, so far he's not done much wrong really but hasn't done much to impact the game either, watching him solely his positioning isn't great, he has a big engine though and covers a lot of ground, he kind of tucks in towards the centre back a lot too though when he should be closer to the wing and he is bypassed a lot, in fact its probably a testament to Sherwood that he is because he's been in space at times and Delph or Westwood could have played an easy pass but have gone forward instead of sideways and always found a man.

63:38 makes a good run forward and Delph finds him with a good pass his cross is blocked, he keeps it in knocks it back to Benteke and it goes out for a Villa throw. Short throw he gives it to Jack who plays it straight back before playing the ball back ten yards to Delph.

70:00 Wins a header in space but can't find Grealish Liverpool break but Jack wins it back plays an easy pass back to Richardson who tries to step and turn but makes a mess of it and gives away a throw.

70:35 slow to follow Can when a ball played in both their direction, allows Can to get a potentially dangerous flick into box but Vlaar clears.

71:19 again leaving Can in loads of space, goes one on one, does well initially, Can falls to ground Richardson doesn't get ball, Can gets back up gets ball, plays it off Richardson for a corner.

75:20 gets some water, and argues with Benteke, while both teams are making changes, Benteke laughs it off.

76:19 gets a ball from Delph in space on edge of our area, hoofs it long under no pressure all the way back to Mingolet no idea who he was trying to find.

78:47 Leaves Glen Johnson in acres of space and if Liverpool can find him he'd be in one on one with Shay but Delph makes a tackle on Coutinho before the pass can be played, gives away a foul the ball rolls that bit closer to Shay than Johnson so no advantage, Delph booked.

85:50 Coutinho's corner finds Gerards but his header doesn't really have great power on it, it's kinda a high curling one, Richardson heads it off the line, he's a whole 2.5seconds to watch it, Skrtel strikes at the cleared ball but it's not even close to threatening.

86:37 hoofs a clearance under pressure Cole cant win the header and goes back to Skrtel.

88:36 Defensive clearance that finds Benteke, Cole cant win flick on & Liverpool have it back.

90:30 a cleared header comes to Lambert just outside the box, he just stands and looks makes no attempt to close down cross finds a Liverpool player at the back post who heads back to Sterling who drives wide and over.

91:33 again miles away from his man Henderson is in a good position just to the right of the box and puts in a dangerous cross he's about 8 yards away from him, the cross finds Balotelli and he should do much better but heads slightly over.

92:55 Ball comes to Balotelli on edge of the box he runs at Richardson, he forces him wide and does well , it's played back across and comes to Lovren who drives miles over.

 

He was in my opinion definitely worst player for us, but I'll be honest he wasn't as bad as I remembered. He had a poor game overall, clearance aside. He's constantly leaving his man in loads of space I wonder is this something Sherwood has advised after the QPR game where when he got in close to a man he was destroyed on a few occasions, he's no problem getting forward but seems always to be a second or two (usually two) slow to make a run back, he hugs the centre back as well at times and means there is a lot of space both in front and to the the side of him when we are defending. Another thing he's about 6 yards ahead of Bacuna most of the time position wise there is usually a line in the pitch between him so he's never in danger of playing anyone onside. I was hoping I'd have loads of evidence to ram down Stevo's throat ( ) but no he was still poor but not diabolical by any means. One last thing his work rate was quiet poor on the defensive end, like I said earlier he'd no problem busting a gut to get up the line but he's not like that when we don't have the ball. I think our full backs are becoming more irrelevant going forward the amount of times I'd see Delph in possession and think oh he'll just knock this 5 yards to Richardson but instead he'd play it 15 yards forward to Benteke who would do a little flick to Jack or Zog or play a cross field pass to whoever was free.
