All other names have only been mentioned by people guessing. Hunt, Anshultz (sp?), Simpson and the other chap. A certain man who shall not be named, said the interested party owns an American team, but he didn't say in what sport. I think, with Randy's connections, it's likely that we're going to be sold to an owner of an American sports team. But, there are probably hundreds of people who fit that criteria! That's it. Jay-Z will take over. He will be perfect for us loads a doe and then we will be the first football club to join the illuminati, win everything and take over the woooorld!The problem is, if he doesn't run us the way we want, we'll call for him to leave and we'll all be killed. Popular Post suttonpaul Posted May 14, 2014 Popular Post Share Posted May 14, 2014 (edited) What I am about to say is fact not opinion and is a response to today's posts and generally to what fans think about the relationship between owner funding and Premier League football clubs. I have seen people say if Abramovic or Mansour left their respective clubs that they would go bankrupt within a year and that is simply not true. Both clubs are self sustaining now after the initial massive investment they received. The reason for this is very simple, both clubs have CL money and receive more money for finishing higher in the league than most other clubs in the league but that isn't the big difference between us and them. The big difference is merchandising and sponsorship as I would be surprised if they earned more than 50m more than us from higher finishing money and group stage money for the CL that doesn't go very far when you pay some players 15m a year in your squad. Like I said the stand out difference is sponsorship and merchandising. Sponsorship like the stadium naming rights and kit sponsor at Man City is worth 35m a year to them which people say is over the top and the owners circumventing FFP rules however Man Utd are reported to be signing a deal for 60m a year just for their shirt sponsorship and their training kit deal is worth 20m a year so that puts that myth to shame. Merchandising is mostly selling shirts to people all over the world. Ok Paul your not telling me much I don't know already here..... Ok but why do those clubs get that kind of merchandising sales and sponsorship? Simple they win things and playing at the top end of the table. When some kid in China or Africa chooses an Premier League club they usually pick them because of how they play, a player who plays for them or because they are win things. In some cultures being a winner is a really attractive thing for example. So when Mansour pops into Man City or Abramovic pop into Chelsea and drops a ton of money on the club it may seem really dumb financially but it actually isn't. What that money buys is success when you spend on that kind of level and that in turn buys you the foreign fans and unfortunately more and more in this country the kids of that generation here (how many more top 5 teams tops do you see on kids these days?). That is the merchandising revenue sorted and now the sponsors want you because of those fans following you and your exposure in the media. Simple. The owners get their money back by having a self sustaining club and when they eventually sell on the club is worth loads of money. It isn't hard to imagine City selling for over 500m now is it? Especially in a few years time with a few more cups under their belt and those benefits I just talked about doesn't take into account the other business benefits that someone like Mansour profits from with his Man City connection which are well known. So to anyone who didn't understand that before I hope that debunked a few myths about these top owners just being in it for a benevolence factor. The real sugar daddy's are the clubs that are owner funded to lesser levels such as the QPR owners they put money in to the tune of say 40m (not even including wages here guys) and then don't get the above benefits because they don't spend enough to get that success and therefore it doesn't become self sustaining. So why are you telling me this? Well when we are talking about a new owner for us there are all sorts of opinions of who the right man would be. Statement - 'If we get 25 - 30m a season to invest then that will make us competitive again'. My Answer - Well at the moment the club can self sustain a 20m a year investment in player transfer fees, so you aren't asking for much of a new owner originally but what about further down the line? Lets say we go out and buy Bertrand, Holtby, Lescott and a right back like Micah Richards for example and blow all of that 20 or probably 25m. We get stronger as a team in terms of quality, it fills gaps in the team and it makes us more solid. Great it gets us to say 9-12th in the league but it also adds nearly 200k a week to the wage bill unless you get rid of the entire bomb squad. So lets say we do that this summer also (I know it is pushing the realms of realism to the extreme). Then next season we are stronger and no worse of financially than we are this year, but what about the year after? Lets say the year after we don't really have to fill gaps like we do now we brought those players mentioned we have a decent team so next time we add just 2 players with our 20m because we need some more quality in the team now. those players will probably want around 60k a week each (3m a year). We get stronger as a team and finish 8th - 10th. What about season 3? Well because we aren't making that much more money from finishing just a couple of places above and that is assuming all of these buys worked out decently (no duds? Yea right!) then we don't have 20m we have 14m as you have to take the players wages into account now. There's no big wage players going that aren't needed to be replaced like the bomb squad now.... I think even the slowest of people see where this is going. Basically you will plateau where you have no self funding left pretty quickly and become a charity case. This is where we were heading under 'the plan' with Randy Lerner. Now I was happy with this personally because I believe a football clubs fans shouldnt EXPECT an owner to pander to all their whims and piss their money up the wall unless it is on a Man City scale where they get it back and we are on a whole other level of self sustaining. This isn't a model for progression to the top of the football tree winning titles, it is a model to get you 5th to 9th place in the league depending on how you do in any given season under the current market. So when looking for a new owner (something we have no control over) we as fans should be looking for someone with a minimum of £3 billion as an ideal so they even have the POTENTIAL to do a Man City whether their intentions are to do that is an entirely different matter completely. I have zero reason to doubt the person who told me, and they have given little snippets since, including the basis for the statement and some of the plans on the table for the future of our club. I know I am a part sometimes, but I'm not taking the piss when I say I am very confident in a takeover.
