The_Lions_Roar
Has lowton been told not to get forward? So many tines we were looking for a pass to where he should of been. Sylla in for kea next game.

turnbull
Too many players haven't kicked on from last season. This and the lack of a creative midfielder has combined to clear away any positivity from the Arsenal game. Really, REALLY, hope Luna hasn't turned into Bennett!! hogso
Incredible the amount of times we have the ball away/knocked it out of play, from some very, very simple passes too. The foul throw that effectively led to their second goal summed it up really. Weimann needs to be dropped.
AntrimBlack
When will Lambert realise that four up front is an awful idea. It leaves the team completely unbalanced, with absolutely no shape. Looks amateurish. But even before that, it was a very poor performance. Delph was the pick of the bunch, but thought Vlaar and Clark did well.
flashingqwerty Posted September 14, 2013 VT Supporter Share Posted September 14, 2013 said at the start of the season we'll be in relegation battle again still feel we will be and the result and performance today suggests we're still a poor side as that is what newcastle most certainly are
AVFCRAMTIN
Delph best player on the pitch for us, hate to see us just throw away opportunities like that. I´m from Sweden and Villa played worse than a shit team in the Swedish league. And Luna omg, he never pressured Ben Arfa at any time. I love Delph and even the bad game and bad result I´m looking forward to the Norwich game. VILLA TIL I DIE!!!
Guest av1
Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert: "We never really got going in the first half. Credit to Newcastle on that side. We got back in the game with Christian's [benteke] goal. The second goal was a poor goal to concede. You pick yourselves up when you go behind and go again. We gave it a right go but you can't start the way we did."
Philosopher
Well our fullbacks got terrorised! That made them tentative going forward. Vlaar and Clark didn't make any major mistakes, El-Ahmadi was guilty of play backwards passes when there was obvious foward passes available. Westwood was annoymous in the first half. Gabby spent too much time in field when he should've been ripping Debauchy a new one (Debauchy is not the best defensively). Guzan far too often in the first half played long to Benteke when he was being man marked by Yanga and Sissoko and had Debauchy nearby to pounce on the second ball, Weimann tried hard and some of his link up play was very good, but his finishing was poor and too many missed passes when to miss the pass looked impossible! Benteke managed to score even though he was pretty much marked out of the game and his passing was poor today. Only good player today was Delph who worked hard, made some good dribbles and kept possession well. Guzan - 6 - Too many long punts, maybe could have not parried the ball to gouffran for the second newkey goal, but otherwise solid and a couple of decent saves. Lowton - 3 - Apart from 2 good crosses awful. Vlaar - 6 - Solid game, our best defender. Clark - 6 - Solid game, wasn't a penalty as the ball was going straight to guzan. Luna - 3 - Ripped to shreds, should have shot when presented with acres of space in the box. El Ahmadi - 4.5 - Played too safe! Negative infact, as a result many oppourtunities to counter evapourated. Westwood - 5 - Invisible first half (except when misplacing a pass), ok second half. Delph - 6.5 - Only midfielder to offer any dynamism, kept the ball well, made some good dribbles, stupid yellow card that affected him defensively. Weimann - 5 - As usual worked his cotton socks off, some good interplay, but when in on goal the finish or final ball wasn't there and some really slack passes. Gabby - 5 - Spent too much time in deep central areas where he is not going to have an effect, looked a threat, Out of our strikers gave less of the ball away then the rest. Should've have been on Debauchy ripping him a new one like Remy did to Lowton! BAD MISS cost him half a mark! Benteke - 6 - Marked out of the game, when the ball was at his feet too often gave the ball away, but still found a way to score! Okore - Looking solid until the injury - 6 Kozak - Didn't see much of the ball as Newcastle dominated possession after he came on but his presence did make space for Benteke to score. Tonev - 5 minutes on the pitch nuff said! He should've came on for El-Ahmadi not Kozak and played in the hole. Lambert - 4 - Got his tactics all wrong today. Should have encouraged Gabby to get at Debauchy, should've pushed up our fullbacks from the beginning, Kozak probably made the equaliser possible but his coming on made it easy for Newcastle to take over in midfield. Should've instructed our midfielders to show for the ball when play out from the back more. Newcastle are on this evidence a good side. Sissoko was excellent, Ben Arfa unplayable, Remy a threat, Cabaye is class and the Yanga - Collocini partnerships looks very promising. Nice reality check for our boys, we are a team that cannot afford to coast or play laxidazically as we will probably get beat! I believe a midtable finish is likely though. Shillzz
Stop our front 3 and you stop the whole side, teams are soon going to pick up on this. Early season optimism all but gone.
JoshVilla
Very hard game to watch. It's a shame because this was one of the games that we had down as one that we'd get something from, and it's a kick in the shaft when it's been crossed off of the calendar and we don't have anything to show for it. That's what makes a defeat so hard to take. I can't say that the team didn't put the effort in today as they worked their socks off like they usually do, but we really need to sharpen up. There were so many misplaced passes and bad decisions made that cost us, and a lot of them were when we were building up to something positive. Starting games is something we really need to sort out. We now have the opposite problem to what we had last season (when we used to start strongly and then throw it away), and we're taking far too long to settle down. Every league match so far has seen us take the damage within 20 minutes, and now it's at the point where we almost wait for the opposition to score the opener just to get it out of the way. Chasing the game so early is just adding to the pressure and tiring us out quicker. Kozak for El Ahmadi was a bit confusing. It would have made a sense a little later on, but it felt as though Lambo just had that one corner in mind and was desperate to get the equaliser. After that, it just took the shape out of the midfield. It seemed as though, as we got closer to their box, nobody really knew what to do, which showed because it often ended up with us needlessly giving the ball away. We just looked very off of it today. Nothing was really happening. All of that said, I'm not gonna panic and assume that we're doomed and that there's been no change, because there has, and hopefully this will just be one of those off games that we can forget about. It's just a shame that it happened to be this one.
poitier
Very poor today from both the team and Lambert. We never looked like getting back into it after their second goal, yet Lambert waited til the 89th minute to bring Tonev on. I thought the central defenders actually did quite well, it was the fullbacks that were exposed as the poor defenders that they are. Our best moments came when we played the ball on the floor, but too often we just lump it up. Man for man Newcastle are a better team than us, although they don't always play like it, but I hate losing to that smug tosser Pardew.

There's no point in bearing arsenal if you're going to lose to the teams that are likely to be around you.
rjw63
We were shite today and git what we deserved.Midfield is boringly predictable and are superb at ten foot sideways passes. No width either. What's the point in bringing in a wide man with two minutes left
Cliffy Biro
Go again, gave it a right good go...is there any point in interviewing lambert every week you might aswell just use those quotes everytime. Get a coach in who can organise a defence because im sorry but you clearly cant.
S-Platt Posted September 14, 2013 VT Supporter Share Posted September 14, 2013 Got what we deserved F-All. So frustrating because you know we are better than that. If only we had a player like Ben Arfa someone to run at a player and take him on creating space for his team mates but the players we have for that today were piss poor Gabby and especially Andi. Crying out for that playmaker in the middle of the park
AvfcTheObsession
Very poor first half. Improved for 20 after the break. But Lambert's sub of Kozak on for KEA ultimately left us with no width or shape, reminded me of Bradford last season. Ben Arfa a constant thorn in our side. smetrov
That was dreadful absolutley dire - 1-2 flattered us - there didn't seem to be any game plan - Lowton either can't bothered - or has been told not to get forward - he was woeful for the first goal. All he seemed to want to do was pass the ball backwards to his defenders. We weren't even good enough for a charge of the light brigade at the end - if anything Newcastle looked more likely to add a 3rd. The midfielders seem to only have the skill level to pass the ball 8 yards sidewards - and the 'new recruits' don't even seem capable of that. Woeful tactics - I can't possibly see any benefit of all the forwards and midfielders huddling into the middle of the pitch, tripping over one another - and giving the ball to the opposition 26 PL games without a clean - and TBH unless the law of avaerges kicks I don't see one on the Horizon 5 Home wins in the Paul Lambert era
villarule123 Posted September 14, 2013 VT Supporter Share Posted September 14, 2013 That was a tragic performance. I'm a little worried about how this season might turn out, we clearly can't play at home and teams that can't always fight relegation. The defence is a shambles, Vlaar is utter shite and should be nowhere near being the captain. Make Guzan the captain, at least he's vocal. Westwood was poor, so was KEA, infact most of the team were. That fat bloke looked like a bit of a tit when he walked up to the away fans to wind them up, only for N'castle to score. Guzan - 6 Luna - 2 (Ben Arfa destroyed him and made him look like a pub player) Okore - 4 Vlaar - 4 Lowton - 4 Westwood - 4 KEA - 4 Delph - 6 Gabby - 6 Benteke - 6 Weimann - 3 I am very concerned about this season.
