Been called that (by me) for as long as I've been in London. When you've done 17 years on it, you'd find other names for it too. Spoiler Edit - To be fair, I've used that deliberate typo more than once in here and you're the first to have spotted it. It's incredible that people don't realise just how pointless it all is. We have 1 life and we spend 40 years of it doing ultimately menial tasks. I was working for an American Telecoms provider a while back, they're proudly "the biggest telecomms company in the world". I asked one of the senior directors once what the end game was, seeing as they were already all conquering, had huge profits year on year, buying out Mexican TV companies to get more of a presence in latin/central america etc etc. He just shrugged. A month later they got rid of ALL of the admin office Receptionists because they were too expensive (probably on 18-20k in the UK, then in Europe they were probably on 15k). I learned that this decision was made on a golf course in Dallas on a Thursday afternoon, by a group of middle aged white blokes earning over $100m between them (in bonuses/share gifts etc year on year). So on the bottom line, they saved about 150k per year. A month previously they announced record profits of $2.2 billion (or something similar). Pretty shameful if you ask me. Businesses are losing sight of what makes them work. All the beautification in the offices were turned off or got rid of (potted plants, water fountains, fish tanks (all the things that "wow" clients)). In the EMEA and India they got rid of cellular offices because they determined work load would increase by 10%. The beautification thing saved them 25k in electricity per year and about 10k in servicing costs - enough money to keep a few small businesses in business. Oh and they got rid of some local gardening companies which kept the areas around the offices nice and tidy because they only wanted to co-operate with large companies. So the service went to shit, they had agency workers stood around smoking all the time, not wanting to be there and the company which they USED to employ went bump, all whilst the gardens just went wild and broke some of the A/C units a small win, but a win all the same.

Davkaus
After a couple of years of our 'performance management' being rating the few people in our team from 1-5, HR have got involved and have started putting together feedback templates and asking for objectives. Sitting in their ivory towers, sending out directives and interfering with staff appointments and interviews.

HR rocket polishers.
