pas5898
I personally think for morale, it's worth signing him to a 1/2 year deal. Perhaps some sort of player coach role? He is the perfect player to mentor some of the younger players. The thought of him coming on in the 85th minute of a game is awesome. The reception would be deafening. The feel good factor it would bring troughout the club would be tangible. Edited July 18, 2016 by pas5898

If he doesn't make it as a player then I've no doubt he'll continue in some sort of coaching capacity

TheStagMan
As an unattached player, we can sign him at any point during the season can't we?

In that case there really is no need to be hasty about any decision, which can only be a good thing
omariqy
Exactly my point. There is no rush to give him a contract.
villa_southerner
He is wanted around the club with his character and experience, I believe he will be offered a role coaching the youngsters but will come down to what Stan wants to do.

The Villa boss praised Petrov’s integrity, determination and character and has offered him the opportunity to remain at Bodymoor Heath in a different role. markavfc40
Fair play to him and the club for giving him the chance. Neither could do anymore. The fact he has fallen at this hurdle is no big deal. The fact he got this far is remarkable. I hope he sticks around in a coaching capacity.
CarewsEyebrowDesigner
Probably for the best if he just isn't going to be able to reach the required level, which is understandable really. Shame, but it would be nice to give him a coaching role because he's a solid professional and a good human being.
Popular Post Pilchard
To be fair - he did look a little far away from being fit enough against Worcester. He looked knackered before he came on - at 37 under normal circumstances - he wouldn't be here. It'd be wrong to him, and us, if he was given a contract just out of pity or sentiment. That is not taking away from the sheer unbelievable will, effort, fight and determination that has got him to this though. He's done brilliantly, and shouldn't be disappointed. It's also disappointing as it'd have been nice to have someone in the squad who we can all like, all look up to. There isn't one figurehead in that squad who we can all agree on being proud to represent our club. Edited July 20, 2016 by Pilchard

Raymond
Legitimately angry at the news. It would not hurt to have him in the squad. He does not have to play 90 minutes every game or really at all. Let him be the locker room general, our Juwan Howard (NBA). That role is important even if he does not touch the field.
Popular Post OutByEaster? Posted July 20, 2016 Moderator Popular Post Share Posted July 20, 2016 Common sense prevails. Now we need to find a way to use all of the properties that allow a man to try what he's tried to be used for the best of the club. His will to win, his positivity, his ability to connect with players will make him an excellent addition to the backroom staff. I hope he's here a good while yet.
