Just to confirm, getting booked like that isn't mandatory as Bowen when he scored for us v Hull on the opening day didn't get booked and that was exactly the same.

There's been countless celebrations like that at VP over last few years (way too many of course). Pretty sure Lampard didn't get booked either when Chelsea fans spilled onto the pitch after he broke the goalscoring record.

Actually it is, see the rule I previously quoted.

Sighting an example where a rule hasn't been applied is not confirmation that a rule isn't in place.

That is akin to finding an example of where a deliberate handball hasn't been punished and saying that it shows that handball isn't a bookable offence.

Its perfectly clear in the rules, that a ref fails to apply said rule doesn't over ride them.

Ah but surely if it was mandatory refs would without fail book any player who goes towards fans to celebrate just like they have to yellow card someone who takes their shirt off.

Given some players don't get booked for celebrating with the crowd there must be some element of doubt that stops a ref doing it otherwise you wouldn't have cases like in the Hull game.

I don't recall that particular example but If you read the rule I posted previously I'd say it comes down to if the ref thinks the players action has caused a safety or security issue.

It was the Hull game opening day, Bowen ran to the Hull fans and apparently celebrated with his Dad.

I understand the rule, just saying there's clearly an element of doubt in the refs doubt whether to book players otherwise every single player who does that celebration would be booked so to me it's not mandatory like when a player removes their Jersey.

I'd have thought any time a player runs to celebrate with their fans they'll be a surge of fans wanting to celebrate so I'd say there's a safety issue.

Kozak moving actually reminded me he celebrated like that a few times with us. Scored at Stoke and jumped over the hoardings into our fans. No booking.

There isn't a grey area though with removing a shirt, there is with this rule and that grey area for interpretation is the one I just mentioned.

Celebrating with the fans in isolation isn't a bookable offence.

The reality is more people should probably be booked for it rather than less.

PSG and Man City accused of 'financial doping' by La Liga president Javier Tebas

By Michael Kelleher

Last Updated: 06/09/17 1:27pm

La Liga president Javier Tebas has accused Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City of "financial doping".

PSG shattered the world transfer record last month when they activated Neymar's buy-out clause and paid £198m to buy the Brazilian from Barcelona, a payment which La Liga initially refused to accept.

The Ligue 1 club have also agreed a season-long loan for Kylian Mbappe that contains an obligation to buy the forward for £165m in 2018.

The mammoth spending spree has prompted UEFA to open an investigation into PSG's transfer dealings with regards to Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

Kylian Mbappe is one of the hottest prospects in world football

Tebas also took aim at Manchester City, who have spent vast sums to establish themselves as one of the premier sides in European football since being purchased by the Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008.

Speaking at the SoccerEx Convention in Manchester, Tebas said: "This is when football clubs have a competitive advantage due to income not coming from the clubs themselves.

"Recently, Manchester City and Paris Saint-German, before that Chelsea, they have money that has not been created [by them] and have been able to get an advantage through this.

"Manchester City with all this oil [money] will take all these players and we need to protect ourselves.

"These past few years Manchester City have paid out nearly a thousand million on players, PSG £950m"

City, along with PSG, were the subject of a complaint made by La Liga in a letter to UEFA on August 22, calling for an investigation into both clubs for "violation of financial fair play regulations".

Benjamin Mendy is the world's most expensive defender

However, UEFA subsequently moved to clarify that City were not under investigation and called any reports stating otherwise "unsubstantiated".

PSG have been owned by Qatari Sports Investments (QSI) since 2011 and Tebas claims clubs with mega-rich owners have an unfair advantage over their rivals.

The PSG project

Signing Neymar is the biggest statement yet for the PSG project

"We have seen the accounts of these clubs for the past five years, seeing income from gate tickets, TV rights and commercial income," Tebas continued.

"This is publicly available data. We have the comparison with Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United.

"We know these clubs fight to become the best brand in world. We carried out this study of the accounts - income streams, sponsorship et cetera. PSG has a lot more from sponsorship than Manchester United. That's impossible. That's financial doping.

La Liga president Javier Tebas believes the system of Financial Fair Play is not working

"It is not like I don't like PSG. If this player (Neymar) had gone to Manchester United maybe I would not have gone to the courts because this is not financial doping and maybe they have the money to buy this player."

FFP rules require clubs to more or less break even over a period of three years and PSG will pay Neymar £515,000 per week over the course of his five-year contract, which could take the total cost of the Brazilian to £500m.

PSG accrued about £50m from selling players this summer and UEFA says it will put the club's books under meticulous scrutiny over the coming months.

Neymar is one of the crown jewels in world football, both as a player and a commercial force, and neither Barcelona nor La Liga are happy that he was lured away against their will.

Could Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi follow Neymar by leaving La Liga?

And when asked if PSG could repeat the feat with two even bigger names, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, Tebas admitted it is not out of the question.

"I think the buyout is higher but if Nasser [Al-Khelaifi] wants them they can just open the pipes and afford them," Tebas conceded, referring to QSI's chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

"This is the gas price not the football price. The Qatari tourist board pay this much [for sponsorship], another pays this much. It is very easy to do this. It is not complex.

"They are laughing at the industry aren't they? We have caught them p***ing in the swimming pool. Now Neymar has gone on the diving board and peed from the diving board. This is not acceptable."

It's amazing that the head of La Liga wasn't so vocal when Barcelona signed Neymar in a world record deal that was highly dubious with loads of money going to agents and offshore accounts. Also I don't remember him saying anything when the Spanish government bailed out Real Madrid to the tune of ~half a billion euros. Of course it's just all this Qatari money that PSG and Man City have that's immoral, except the Qatari money that Barcelona have and the Qatari sponsor that's emblazoned on the once revered blue and red catalan stripes that for decades were too sacred to even contemplate putting a sponsor on.

So how about this Tony Gale who was calling out Ederson on SKY for not being a "proper man" for not waiving to the fans while being carried out after Mane kicked him in the head?

It must be something about ex-West Ham players but I find Tony Gale and Tony Cottee to be 2 of the most objectionably word removedy pundits on TV.  They're frequently way off the mark on stuff.

Aguero in a car crash with the taxi he was travelling in, off to the hospital with suspected rib fracture.

29 SEPTEMBER 2017 • 8:09AM

Sergio Aguero could face two months out with broken ribs after the Manchester City striker was involved in a car crash in Amsterdam on Thursday evening.

Manchester City released a statement on Friday morning ahead of their trip to the champions Chelsea on Saturday: "Sergio Aguero will be assessed by Club doctors today after being involved in a road accident on Thursday. The City forward was in Holland on his day off and has sustained injuries.

"He will return to Manchester this morning and his status will be checked ahead of tomorrow's Premier League clash at Chelsea."

According to reports in Aguero's native Argentina, the forward suffered broken ribs when the taxi taking him to the airport crashed into a pole.

Pictures on social media appeared to confirm the incident.

Aguero was in the Dutch capital to see a concert of Colombian singer-songwriter Maluma, and it is believed that his injuries would have been more severe had he not been wearing a seat-belt.

Aguero's former club, Independiente, tweeted a photo of Aguero with the words: "Strength and prompt recovery. Everyone @ Independiente is with you in this difficult moment."

Earlier in the night, Aguero shared a picture of himself and Maluma on Instagram.

Aguero's absence will be a major blow to club and country. The striker has been in sparkling form for City so far this season, scoring six goals and chipping in with three assists.

Two months on the sidelines would mean not only missing Saturday's crucial trip to Chelsea, but also matches against Arsenal in the Premier League and Napoli in the Champions League.

The news will also come as a big blow to Argentina, who host Peru in a crunch World Cup qualifier next month.

That's not good for City even thou they have options

Great result for City yesterday, and the manner of it was impressive.

Pep has them more efficient now and has them pressing all over the pitch effectively, like he had at Barca.

Also, notable mention to Delph popping up at left back.

I make that Delph, Young and Milner all converted to left backs after leaving Villa.

Delph played LB for us as well to be fair.

I've been heavily critical of Pep over the last 12 months but its impossible to deny that they've improved quite considerably since this time last year.

It is a matter of debate how impressive or significant that improvement is given the money spent.

I still though have my doubts about them in the Nov-March period of the season when titles are won and games come thick and fast.

My money is still on the more pragmatic United.
