Southgate has now cost us once again at a major tournament by being found to be out of his depth and lacking tactical nous. Is making the call (twice now) to sub his sub - a move of a tactical genius or one of panic and confusion and a clueless move? So much anger towards that man right now for squandering the talents at his disposal - especially Jack’s. We actually, have the players now to be a fully attack minded team and should be feared for it… Grealish, Foden, Sancho, behind Kane, should’ve been the front 4 from the start in a 4231 system. I dont think Jack is going anywhere, i'm 100% convinced he's staying but if I did have a view about what you are talking about I would be opposite to you that he sees that while Southgate is in charge he's not going to get sufficient minutes and unlikely to win a trophy so the only way he can win trophies is at club level. While I'm optimistic about Villa's future, for Jack his real chance of trophies is at a club like Man City. So I dont see it quite like you, I see what happened as more of negative at keeping Jack than a positive. Again that is just one element and I think Jack stays but I'm not sure this England experience has been as positive for Villa as you might be making out. Any competent manager gets us to the final. We only got here from the sheer quality of the squad. Jack turns up when the pressure is on. Mount, Saka, Sterling all bottled it tonight. Southgate didn't know his best team all tournament. No doubt Southgate will get loads of merit but I just can't accept that. Silver lining - Jack won't go absolutely nuts celebrating. To him because he couldn't do the stuff Jack does he can't help but see it as risky because if he had tried to do those things without Jacks ability he would have been taking major risks... so he associates it with his own fears is what i think. As he sees it as his job on the line & responsibility he is therefore scared to use him. It says more about Southgates inadequacies than Jacks.
