Writer/Director/Producer on Don't Look Up, Vice and The Big Short in recent years.

I've not seen Don't look up yet but Vice is very good and The Big Short is a fantastic film and then before that he was the writer/producer (and at times director) on Anchorman and it's sequels and a lot of other Will Ferrell stuff, he's produced Succession for TV, and heck, he's even responsible for Between Two Ferns withwith Zach Galifianakis. 

He's currently involved in a mini-series about the Walmart heiress's and his series "This giant beast that is the Global economy" is well worth catching.

Put me down as a fan.

I see the character as a parody of Musk and to a lesser extent Bezos, due to their interest in space. The character in the film reminded me more of Peter Molyneux than anyone else, if there’s any other gaming nerds who know who he is?

I think you might be over thinking it a little. 

Don't think I've ever seen Zuckerberg described as having "average levels of charisma and eloquence" before.

I don’t want to get too off topic. I was just illustrating why audiences like the film more than critics, particularly on here.

Critics would say the satire is simplistic, because it is, and thus the film isn’t a good film. Audiences would say we’ve just seen a year where right wing politicians tried to overthrow the election result and told people not to get a safe and reliable vaccine against a pandemic, and a film showing them being stupid and self-serving feels enjoyable and relevant despite having all the subtlety of a sledgehammer.

I personally think both critics and audiences are right here. Average film, but a fun watch.

Do not really know where to start with this one. Ironically I feel like a critic of 50 or 60 years ago comparing one heavyweight English actors Macbeth to another. Whilst Hassan brings some mild joviality to the role of Pat Tate, as well as the expected violence, snorting and use of the C word I still feel Fairbrass plays the better more visceral Tate. 

interestingly the role of Tony Tucker is yet again played by the same actor across all formats of the films so I can only assume that he has some kind of contract written that he has to appear as TT in any production? 
 

Oh no not a bad representation of the Essex boys but not up to other versions so a solid 6 out of 10 for me. I’ve noticed though they have made ‘bonded in blood 2.’ Not quite sure were this one would go, but will give it a chance in the next week or so

i’ve just stumbled across a film called “We still kill the old way” It looks a little bit different even though some of the actors overlap so I will be with you on this tomorrow. The basic premise is the murder of an old East End gangster by young Hoodies Causing the old firm to get together to teach them a bit of East End manners. This will get 60 something balding toothless cockney morons frothing at the mouth yearning for the ‘old days’ when you could leave your doors open all night, the only people Ronnie and Reggie killed were their own, get a double double for under 10 bob and how to love your dear old Mother./ give the Mrs a playful slap to keep her in line.

About 2/3s through No Time To Die and it’s all a bit dull.

Not as dull as Spectre but dull nonetheless… 

My overall opinion of DC as Bond is he’s duff. 1 good movie (Casino Royale), 1 ok movie (Skyfall) but the rest po-faced boring bobbins.

On my list of Bonds - he’s just above Lazenby (although OHMSS is a great story) but below everyone else. 

 

Edit - now finished and my opinion has not wavered away from it being poor.

It has quite the legacy though.

The director was arrested and had to produce the actors in court to prove that they weren’t really killed in the film.  The animals weren’t so lucky though, they were really killed

That’s the reason I watched it. The legacy not the animal cruelty, that was **** disgusting. 
 

From the stories about the court case I expected some sort of super realistic found footage style movie. 
 

in reality it’s just an ultra offensive, 6th form drama assessment, with added gratuitous nudity

I watched The History of Future Folk on Netflix this afternoon.

Low budget, Aliens, Folk Music and a few laughs. Definitely a B Movie, nothing heavy but an entertaining hour and a half for an afternoon, starring no-one I'd ever heard of and wonderfully stupid

Watched a decent film on Prime called Encounter. Riz Ahmed plays a disgruntled, ex marine who believes there are Aliens invading Earth. He really has become a good actor and he doesn't disappoint in this. The two kids also give good performances.

Stellar cast including Burnside from the Bill, Ian Ogilvy a.k.a. the Saint, The leader of Chelsea’s firm from the Football Factory and James Cosmo (mad Scottish fella)  

Story pretty much is as stated above and plays well on the old gangster versus new gangster match up. You find yourself rooting for the old guys. Quite lighthearted in places which is clearly intentional and more the better for it but still having the required amount of violence for fans of the genre

Solid 7 out of 10 and I noticed they have made another film called “we still steal the old Way”which appears to be some kind of bank heist/blag offering, more to follow on this

Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

Err. Where do you start with this... I didn't think that much of the first film, but didn't actively dislike of either. It's a B film. So a sequel with the addition of probably the second biggest name in the Venom canon, Carnage, isn't too much of a shock to discover is also a B tier film.

But wow, this is like, minimalistic film making. There is no fat on it. There's barely any meat. The film essentially has a 2 act structure, 3/4 of the film is set up, and then it ends. But even the set up is extremely thin - 10 mins catching up with and establishing Brock/Venom's situation, 20 mins of antics, 15 mins of Kasady set up, 5 mins of Carnage set up, done. The plot is 2 line stuff - Eddie and Venom's relationship is strained, a new evil symbiote infects a serial killer, action happens. I'm not expecting War and Peace but seriously this is... basic. 

The appeal of the thing is basically Hardy doing an odd couple act with himself, which is fun, but even that feels a bit weak here and effectively just riffs on the same 2 gags over and over. There's 3 action scenes, which are alright, but nothing special, and are all green screened anyway. The CGI is good, but it's obviously still CGI.

And the amount of CGI scenes makes me think they filmed this in about a fortnight and then the rest of the film only exists on a hard drive. Which coupled to it being so basic in every way makes it almost feel like a budget movie. Or that it was cut to ribbons in the editing suite.

All in all its still not bad (although as a comic feel it has a few things that annoy me - Carnage isn't huge, his threat comes from his being a cruel and sadistic killer, Venom is the brute in his symbiote family), but it's not particularly good either. And perhaps most damningly it's easy to see a better movie being made from the same foundations with a little more effort.

Build my Gallows high (out of the past) on great classics this afternoon, one of the greatest film noir of them all, superb picture.
