Honestly think any of the three subs could easily deserve MOTM, but it's hard for me to give MOTM to someone who only plays 45 of it, after the opponent is tiring.  On that bias alone, I gave it to Torres.

A very good point away to a bogey team for Villa particularly without McGinn or Kamara in the engine room.

Bonus that Zaniolo scored which will do his confidence no harm at all.

The international break has come at exactly the right time for Villa. Some players treading in mud over last few games hence Emery’s selection today while giving time for injuries to heal.

He did though. We started with too little experience and fortunately he realised his mistake and corrected it for the second half. 

In essence we gave Spurs too much respect starting 5 at the back at home, then gave West Ham too little respect starting Rogers and Duran away. 

Fortunately Emery realised his mistake in time today and we ended the weekend in a solid position.

I think we're exactly as good as I think we are tbh

It was a weird lineup today but I don't know how to solve the lack of McGinn or Kamara in midfield against physical opposition in a way that works for 90 minutes, if Emery's not chucking Iroegbunam in there he must not be ready/up to it tbh

Take the point and run! Before the game, I would have taken it. During the game, I was praying for it. After the game, I'm thinking how lucky we were to get it!

Unai messed up. Absolutely no doubt. And it wasn't the patchwork midfield so much as the defence:

CASH KONSA PAU DIGNE

That's it. Simple. Cash was MOTM for me, he improved Konsa, attacked brilliantly, awesome block at the end. He linked up with Bailey and Diaby and changed the game.

That's not to say there weren't other odd lineup choices. Zaniolo and Diaby are struggling, but they are still clearly better than Rogers and Duran. They both have more experience too. Play one of the raw players, not both. And I'll accept it's early but calling Rogers 'raw' is extremely polite based on what I've seen of him so far.

We've gained a point on Spurs this weekend. More than we expected. We've got two more games without McGinn and a bit of a rest. Luiz in particular looks completely done. Martinez has been poor lately (esp distribution) and a break is exactly what we all need - fans included!

Genuinely surprised at some of the comments saying how poor we were. Clearly there are some short memories on here. Thought we totally dominated them and played some enterprising stuff at times. Final ball/shot obviously could've been better and our achilles heal continues to be our set piece defending, but overall I'm watching a team play like a big team, i.e. one that tries to control the game. West Ham have the ability to do damage but I thought their contribution was pitiful given the resources they have. UTV

Good point noting the injury problems we have, plus McGinn's suspension, Emery is clearly trying to manage the workload of the players.

He tried something which given our injuries and suspensions was understandable which didn't work out, which he sorted and we got a point.

Again, that's not "making a mess".

Also who said criticism of Emery wasn't allowed?

Completely agree. We started the first half on the front foot and completely dominated the second half. Apart from that 15 minute spell where we kept giving the ball away in defence, which also lead to their goal, I'd say it was a very solid away performance. Even more so when you remember how many players we have missing, getting bad defeat last week and it's a difficult place to go.

We played some really nice stuff at times. Only things to work on for me are defending set pieces and maybe sometimes we could have got a shot away sooner rather than looking for one more pass.

Emery tried something different. It didn't work so he corrected it during the match.

But no, let's moan moan moan eh?

To be fair the line up looked good, I don’t think they tactically out done us - just got a goal when they were on top and kept their shape really well and we were stupidly sloppy.  We always had the better bench, and prob would have gambled on being able to make effective changes second half (just hopeful it was 0-0 and not behind) to get us a point or 3.  Happy the VAR got to the right decisions, the lost would have been bad but not end of world, but the drama of it all would have been worse.

break to get some players back/fitter and hit it hard for last leg
