This is just what creating a visual identity, a brand, involves. There's clearly a whole host of design elements that have been created that we're just starting to see, one of which is this. People have said for years that the word 'VILLA' is one of the strongest parts of our identity, and they've gone and created a visual around the phrase 'the Villa'. I'm guessing that the 'pixellated' effect is a decision to (a) create some visual interest and (b) slightly disguise the lettering so it can be used as a background element. I wouldn't be surprised if it's inspired by some frosted glass in the Holte or something. I'm no expert but I do know a bit about design, and I'm quietly confident that the full rebrand, when released, will be top quality. The problems are (a) the '150' graphic admittedly isn't quite as clear as it could be -- can't pretend otherwise -- and (b) they're introducing new design elements here and there, rather than the whole thing at once. It will all look much better as part of a single, cohesive brand. Personally I love what I'm seeing. Strong use of claret and gold, a mix of ornate cursive text and heavy, classic lettering. It feels regal, historic, but modern. I'm hopeful the designers have been given the freedom to create a really fresh, bold badge too, rather than a 'try and include everything' approach that so many clubs fall into these days. But if they get people too offside with these continual poor snippets then it won’t matter how good the whole thing could be, people will have already have negative view…it’s really hard to change that. It’s like when a player is signed and first loads of games are awful, many players never recover from that to be a success at a club in the fans eyes. Heck tweeting this out of context was the problem as a lot of people have decided this is something more than it actually is. It’s a marketing tool. Did everyone get this pent up when they revealed the logo below? Does anyone even remember it now? Doubtful as it was used on a few emails, posters and flyers. To think that some people thought it some kind of error or oversight is actually quite traumatising to read.
