Neighbours, everybody needs good Neighbours

Mine are pretty good. I live on a short private drive, the first house of 5.

Next door is a Villa season ticket holder so that’s good. They are very quiet and keep themselves to themselves. Ideal neighbours really.

I mentioned before though that for fun we have creates fake personalities for some of the others.

The lovely old retired bloke 2 doors down is actually a peeping tom who hides in the bushes and watches through our windows pleasuring himself. When I close the curtains at night I’ll say “shows over John, go home”.

The house where they kill, freeze and cook random callers.

Then there’s “Cruella” who is a dog snatcher

I’m sure our neighbours would have a view on my son playing football in the garden and slamming it off the fence panels.

My one neighbour is a very elderly widow who's husband passed away last year age 103.

In a thousand to one coincidence her son is a builder we nearly got to do a extension on our old house. Did the same extension we were planning at this house so it was very helpful that her son was doing it as he had all the party wall discussions and sorted scaffolding on their side.

The old boy was a real character. Had been in a Stalag camp after being captured in North Africa in the war. Was on the escape committee. In Civilian life was a Police Officer, a postman and a bus conductor.

The other side are OK. They're probably 10-15 years older than us, he's in semi retirement.   He's a bluenose but not really that interested, prefers his cricket. He's totally henpecked by her, we hear him getting so many ear bashings. Their son is back home after getting divorced from his absolutely enormously fat wife.

Only real problem was 2 doors down who were pretty scummy. Single mum ran a dog grooming business. Always loads of noise from the dryers, and dogs everywhere yapping, barking and frequency escaping round the gardens. Her kids were pretty feral especially the son who I expect to be in prison now, he was borderline mental. Constantly at war with the neighbours. Then got herself a man who always parked his van in a awkward position on the very narrow road outside our house.

The whole road was relieved when they moved out.

Turns out my boss used her for grooming her dogs.  I found out she moved to a really posh road, no idea how. All the neighbours complained to the council about the nuisance of her business and she had to stop working from home and now has a unit at local garden centre.

I'm mainly worried about the old lady. She's barely coping at home. I can't see her being there much longer so we're probably getting new neighbours soon.

Next door to me is rented out to a middle aged couple and adult son. Nice enough and quiet.

Other side to me is a proper milf (and her husband 😠)with 3 nippers. Again, a quite private family but the young daughters are so well mannered and downright lovely.

All other neighbours are retired couples.

All villa fans around here too, as far as I know.

Can't wait for @rjw63 and his tales of (previous) neighbours !

One side is an older couple, that I have talked about elsewhere. The other side is a pair of middle aged Liverpool supporters.

This street on the whole is fairly middle class and I love it. I moved here a little over 2 years ago and I am on hello terms with all of my far and wide neighbours.

The only real issue is no dog friendly pub within walking distance.

Ours are all pretty good , we get together for communal stuff now and then but look after each others pets , bins etc if someone is away and always have a good chat when I see them .

mentioned it before in a thread on here but we had a  young lad move in whose tree I decorated one Easter with Christmas decorations, all the neighbours got in on it and we had a fairy  lights , climbing Santa and someone even made him mince pies and put them under the tree … he’s been having some building work done but if it’s finished for Christmas we are thinking of decorating the tree with Easter stuff

Our first house, we were having problems with the neighbour one side using our garden as a rubbish tip. We were nice, and pointed out we’d bought it and were doing it up so it had to stop. They claimed ignorance, we pointed out the addresses on the envelopes in the bin bags.

They said they wouldn’t do it again. They did.

Then one day I get home from work and there’s a load of old tat in the middle of the garden, broken pipe, guttering, clumps of mud. I went absolutely postal, lobbing it all back over the neighbours making sure as much as possible hit their back door, got mud up their windows, dumped guttering so it crushed their flowers. I shouted and screamed, they were obviously in, but wouldn’t come out for the confrontation.

Later, I went over my parents for tea and my old man announced he’d renewed all my guttering and down pipes for me as a pressie. But we had no more problems after that, so overall, win.

I thought that when the Welsh complain about their neighbours, they are usually talking about the English. 👍

I'm live on campus at the college at teach at, so my immediate neighbours are the other teachers. There are only a couple I actually socialise, and a few who I try to avoid rather than listen to their endless moaning, but everyone was friendly and mostly gets along well enough.

Beyond the gates of the teachers compound, there are about 15,000 students in their late teens or early twenties. That means there is always sport or music going on and generally a fun and buzzing atmosphere.

I know that living and working in the same place would be a nightmare for a lot of people but absolutely love it.

Farmland facing the front of the house, elderly nice woman on one, and a summer-house occupied about 3 weeks per year on the other. It's borderline perfect and I still contemplate moving even further out in the sticks.

As I mentioned up thread my house is first on a short drive with 4 others. What that means is on bin day they are parked on a special little area at the front of my house.

It mildly annoys me that the 2 retired households have their bins out by 11am the day before they are emptied without fail.

I don’t really want to be able to see wheelie bins out of my living room window for any longer than is required.

On the flip side they come and collect them within about 8.2 seconds after they’ve been emptied. I imagine it’s because they’ve got a load of rubbish in the house that needs putting out because they didn’t put their bin out the night before like normal people.

When my neighbour moved in, some strange noises came from his garage. Not loud enough to be annoying but just couldn't work out what it was. Then a metal pole went up at the bottom of his garden about 10 metres high. Any way he was a nice enough guy. A retired sparky. His hobby was morse code so he was tapping away all the time. The military pay him to practice and teach it. He explained if the worst ever happened you could still communicate with morse.

One other thing from his sparky days the bulb went in my garage. We were talking as it happened. So he gave me a box of bulbs. Thing is they were 250 watt. It was like Vegas in there.
