The Re-hashed, Back door European Super League Scandal

Recommended Posts

To be honest, I kind of don't enjoy football all that much anymore, as much as we say 'anybody can beat anybody's in the Premier League, they often don't and the table is very similar each year.

For me, the fix is to implement salary caps across the league, making the entire thing more competitive and fair overnight. Like in the NFL.

And also create a Gamepass type streaming service that can see more investment directly to the teams, expand audiences and make the experience nicer and easier.

Problem for both of those though - and this is where I get scary close to describing the Super League - is relegation. Clubs aren't going to vote in a system that doesn't allow them to invest to avoid relegation. And relegation from the PL means the club's don't always think as a unit, their membership of the league can expire in any given year, so they think and act accordingly - I.e. less innovation in things like streaming services.

Where as compared to the NFL, they know they aren't losing membership, they have a vested interest in growing the league long term.

If the PL had no competition (like the NFL or NBA) then those things wouldn't be a problem. A salary cap could be implemented, they could risk their TV Network partners being annoyed at them and keep relegation, the pyramid and implement changes that increase competition, improved fan experience and not really need to worry too much.

There's loads of leagues though waiting in the wings to become the new Premier League. Start capping salaries and the games biggest stars go to La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A etc.

Piss off the networks and they too start promoting the hell out of competing leagues, throw money at them, which in turn can attract players.

So I'm my view, we're doomed to either keep doing what we're doing, 30 more years of the same clubs winning and ever more ridiculous Sums of money keeping us from competing, or the ESL ends up happening, and the institution of the pyramid begins to die.

I much prefer watching the NFL nowadays, partly I feel bad about that because it's the exact set up that would destroy football, but there's a feeling that when you have a bad team, you could always turn it around completely in the next 2-5 years. It's competitive in a way the PL just isnt

It is as a league, it isn't as a sport.  I guess that's the beauty of the football pyramid.

The PL are about to agree a 5 year £500m deal to let EA have the gaming rights. Another instance of the PL dwarfing all the other leagues given that EA used to pay $150m a year for all its FIFA rights.

You can see why European clubs need the Super League. It's all or bust.

That's still a good deal for EA, they make $1.6B a year from game sales of FIFA, or whatever it will be called next year, alone, not including microtransactions.

A former vice president of the referees received payments from Barça

Fútbol Club Barcelona paid 1.4 million euros to a company owned by José María Enríquez Negreira between 2016 and 2018. At that time, the former First Division referee held the position of vice president of the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA) of the Royal Spanish Football Federation. In fact, he was vice president from 1994 to 2018.

The Barça club paid DASNIL 95 SL the amounts of 532,728.02 euros in 2016, 541,752 euros in 2017 and 318,200 euros in 2018. In June 2018, Barcelona paid the last invoice, a date that coincides with the constitution of a new CTA and with the departure of Enríquez Negreira from the Committee.

Consulted by the program 'Què t'hi Jugues' of SER Catalunya, the former president Josep Maria Bartomeu assures that the payments were put to an end due to a policy of cutting expenses and that the reports already existed at least in 2003, when he arrived to the club, and that they were paid continuously until 2018. Sources from Sandro Rosell's board of directors also support this version. Gaspart assures that he is not aware of it and Joan Laporta has declined to comment on it.

Atletico Madrid president resurrects Super League rumours

President of Atletico Madrid Enrique Cerezo has publicised his stance on the infamous Super league voicing that the outcome is “inevitable and will go on in coming years.”

“Nobody can put obstacles to a new competition. The Super League will go on. Here or in a few years, it will come out,” Cerezo said in an interview with El Chiringuito.

The Spanish president’s comments sparked the unsaid gossip of a reformation of the coalition, particularly since Barcelona president Joan Laporta said the Super League “could be a reality by 2025” last month.

Sadly i dont thinks dead.

With powers like us newcastle etx trying to disturb  the clubs like chelsea spurs and utd. These fans might opt to favor it if they consistently miss out on Europe changing their stance.

If it comes into action every non competing team should boycott that tournament.

They will lose so much money and viewership from all the clubs not involved it will flop badly. They will then probably try open it up to saudi clubs and it will be a even bigger laughing stock

The Premier League is already a super league, and has only gotten stronger since the last time these desperate shysters tried to cling on to living beyond their means.

We won't be invited to this, yet there are only 4 non-PL teams with a more valuable squad than us according to Transfermarkt.

Premier League clubs would be insane to go. The likes of Man City and Arsenal will have to disgrace themselves and fracture their fanbase potentially beyond repair to play on average, about the same standard of football, maybe slightly less, depending on how many clubs they can convince to come along and be the Washington Generals of their circus.

December 21st might be the day that club football as we know it dies. Flawed as it currently is it's still better than what this new alternative will be.

Real Madrid might get a financial injection of a whopping €1 billion if the ruling regarding the controversial Super League goes in their favour on December 21st, reports Mundo Deportivo.

The important thing here is a decision from the High European Court coming out next Thursday, the 21st as the clubs supporting this decision want it to create a set of rules. These rules would let teams join the Super League in the future without having to quit their national leagues and cups.

As of today, the aforementioned report says the plan is going well as there’s a bunch of money involved as investors are putting in €15 billion to kick off the competition.

From that total, the investors will get to keep 15%, while Barcelona and Madrid will get a bonus for sticking with the project.

What time’s the ruling and what can be expected?

A decision will be taken on December 21st at 9:30 AM. After that, UEFA and La Liga will probably say they’ve won because the decision recognizes their right to organize football games.

But at the same time, A22 Sports Management, the company behind the Super League project, can also say they’ve won. The decision is likely to say that UEFA doesn’t have the only right to organize football tournaments.

In the game of monopoly, it’s important to have a fair set-up. The people in charge want a decision that shows how to create healthy competition according to EU rules, so one company doesn’t dominate everything, in this case, UEFA.

It’s not a fight of good and evil anymore

Before the decision is made, UEFA and ECA (European Club Association), along with Nasser Al-Khelaifi from PSG, are trying to get clubs to sign a paper.

This paper says that even if the decision doesn’t go in favour of UEFA, the clubs promise to stick with UEFA competitions. They’re getting ready just in case a new competition happens.

I'm surprised the club's aren't pushing for a premier league style super league instead of the champions league. Cut UEFA out of it and take all the TV money for themselves. Then they could still have a domestic league and get guaranteed TV income from European games.

It's all a bag of bollocks yeah you can't stop clubs setting up what they want but what they need to factor in is the club is the fans and without them they have nothing.   The fans spoke but they still want to shit all over them.

It's not so clear cut which Premier League teams to invite this time around.

The mid-table team Chelsea? The richest team in the world and part of the Champions League this season New-Saudi-castle.

The royal team about to go top of the league tomorrow?

Eurgh this crap has been giving the green light to go ahead again, let’s hope there’s fan uproar again when the new proposals are released.

The fans of the Sky 6 will like it this time round, there is talk of promotion, relegation, and all sorts to make it 'fair' but the Sky 6 will still get most of the massive revenue.

No, it means that UEFA and FIFA were not allowed to fine the clubs for proposing a breakaway league. There was no ruling on the Super League as that wasn't what the case was about. One would assume if they had to rule on the Super League it would be branded a cartel and be made illegal.

The issue is that Leagues like Premier League, Football League, La Liga etc.. are controlled by the clubs. UEFA isnt controlled by all the member clubs. So for example if the leagues of Europe wanted to set up a rival competition to UEFA that wasn't a cartel it could happen. So essentially get rid of UEFA CL and replace with European Super League but would still require a method of access for teams based on merit.
