Sounds similar to my way of thinking 2 hrs from newmarket (suffolk) to Vila Park and 2hrs back is becoming a chore when being subject to some of our performances this season. Dont mind the 30mins walk from star city gives me chance to stretch my legs on the way to the ground. Whereas on the way back all I can think of is why do I bother....!
jackbauer24
According to another well known fan site, Villa season tickets will be going up a minimum of 10% across the board with the added hit of some of the cheaper 'zones' being abolished and concession rates being reduced. Which, as I understand it, would mean a concession seat in, say Zone 5, would have a very big increase coming.

Adult seat in North Lower around 25%, Holte Lower (where I am) around 17.5%, according to that.
WHY
Fully expected a decent increase at some point, looks like we are getting one. The timing isn’t great given all the other increases in the cost of living atm. I personally feel we’ve been lucky that our ST’s are one of the cheapest in the league, so no real complaints from me. My biggest worry is we will lose some good fans on the back of it, who will be replaced by plastics who don’t hold any real affinity to the club. mattyvilla
i have a family ticket in a reduced zone , if that zone is removed and the 10% on top my tickets could be close on double , depending on which concessions stay or not

Popular Post OutByEaster? Posted April 8, 2022 Author Moderator Popular Post Share Posted April 8, 2022 So, at last nights meeting between fans groups and Christian Purslow and his management team, there was some discussion around the clubs plans for season tickets in 2022/23. The club presented the FCG with the results of a detailed, strategic review of Aston Villa’s pricing from the last ten years and benchmarked against a wide range of Premier League clubs. The conclusion is likely to result in heading towards some simplification of concession rates and the zoning system with an additional increase of 10 per cent across the stadium. A document which they had prepared for their internal meetings was shared with us - it highlighted a number of areas where our pricing compares very favourably with other sides and which they feel needs to be updated. Our season tickets on average are priced very much to cheaper end of the league, with only a couple of teams cheaper than us on the metric that they used. I'm sure other metrics are available, but by just about any means you use, our tickets are cheaper than those of the teams we want to compete with - and against some of those teams (particularly those in London) ours are incredibly good value. They also identified that the discounts we offer for our concessions are at the very cheapest end of the scale - we're in the top three for the discount we offer to Under 14's, Under 18's and Over 65's and we offer the biggest discount in the league to Under 21's. So, the prices of tickets and season tickets are going up - which in all honesty, we should be expecting. There have been some figures mentioned elsewhere this week that have gathered a lot of attention - that 30% figure you read isn't correct - but it's also a little more complicated than to just sat "tickets are going to go up by X %". Ticket prices are going up in three ways: There will be a 10% increase to the price of season tickets across the board - that's for everyone. A number of areas at Villa Park will be re-zoned, so prices in those areas will change. There will be a change to the rates of the discount offered on some of our concessions. Collectively that price change will bring our average ticket price up from the bottom three to somewhere in the mid-table of pricing in this league. The clubs figures say it'll take us from 18th to 13th cheapest I believe - which if nothing else reflects to an extent the improvement in the football we're paying to see. By my (often slightly ropey) estimation - the 10% increase is the only increase that will apply to around two-thirds of season ticket holders - for the majority of people, you can simply say "prices are going up 10%" - that's roughly the same increase as is being made at Leeds and Everton this summer. Where things do get complicated is where you have a combination of the three increases: If you fit into more than one category, you might find that your price increases by more than that. By my reckoning there are around 9,000 seats which will be re-zoned. That includes the whole of the Lower North Stand and much of the Lower Holte End. If your seat is in that area - then the price will go up by a level and you'll also have the 10% increase. So as a (very) rough example - if you were in the Lower Holte End this season and you paid £575 for your ticket in Zone 3 - you'll be moving to Zone 2 this season and would have paid £615 based on this seasons prices - plus the 10% increase - which would give you a price increase next year from £575 to around £676. Where there will be even more impact is for those people that have concessions and sit in areas which are being re-zoned - those people will get the triple whammy of increased zoning prices, reduced discount and the 10% increase. That's how I read things and It will be clarified by the club over the next couple of weeks - my apologies if I've misread that - please don't panic until the club have released their finalised plans. It's worth remembering that because of the club's pretty unique recent footballing history, our ticket prices have had an unusual period of stagnation - while we were in the Championship, season ticket prices elsewhere in the Premier league went up, and then when we returned, Covid took out a whole chunk of time that the club would have used to evaluate our pricing structure - as a result, we've had areas where out ticket prices haven't been right, and though we've enjoyed those prices, you'd struggle to find any other club in the league offering a season ticket to an Under 14 for £70 (that's less than £4.00 a game) Wolves U17 tickets for last season were £180. So in summary, for most of us there will be an increase of 10%, it'll be more if you're in the Lower North Stand, much of the Lower Holte or anywhere with a Zone 6 ticket and a little bit more on top if you're under 21 or over 65. All of this is pending the club finalising their plans and then introducing them when they put tickets on sale - they took on board some feedback from supporters last night and recognise that there are things they'll need to think about in getting this right. It'll still leave us in the lower half of the league in terms of the cost of tickets and a season ticket at Villa is still good value compared to our peers - but it might feel like a bit of a shunt because some of our prices have been well below the industry standard level for some time. 8

VillaChris
Which clubs are we comparing our prices to though? Man. City, Spurs, Arsenal? I mean these clubs pretty much qualify for europe every season, get to cup finals and also London wages for a couple of those. We don't tend to have much of that. Would be interested to see how we compare nowadays to likes of Brighton, Wolves and Southampton. Like it or not those are our peers currently with relation to league table. I think that's the issue, can get away with 10% + increase if it corresponds on the pitch e.g. better calibre of player comes in like Coutinho and we start finishing regularly top 7 so quality is better. Harder to get away with it if we're treading water still in 11th or 12th and with all respect to him Kienan Davis is playing upfront for us. I assume the increase means we at least should be signing another couple of top players in the summer otherwise why do it, Coutinho + another I reckon. This is the only issue I have with it is the concessions for youngsters and oldies. We need to be encouraging the next generation to come, with all the other things to take their attention more cost to them will push them away. I know I struggle with my nephews when they can easily watch it on tv. At the other end my mom who turns 77 later this month, I’m not sure as a Villa fan all her life she’ll be impressed with the hike over the 10% for everybody else because of a reduced concession given everything else spiralling up cost wise, on her pension and still buying her season ticket this season despite the pandemic. Of course I’ll help with any cost but she might finally end her season ticket if it increases too much. I’d rather general prices go up than impacting youngsters and oldies. edit: thanks for the update by the way Edited April 8, 2022 by nick76

I also mostly get the rezoning but the concession change (and I’ll wait to see what it is) sounds like not reading the room and BS. Just because other teams do it differently you don’t shaft the people on concessions.
Demitri_C
We cant complain one of my mates pays well over a grand fir his season ticket at chelsea. He said they likely to go up even more he thinks because of the whole takeovee going on there. I don't mind paying extra its only fair consieering the miney wes and nas have put inro the club. as long as its reasonable which it seems to be according to OBE Edited April 8, 2022 by Demitri_C

You can't compare their season ticket price with ours. Even if we were as successful as them, I'd expect our tickets to cost less given the region our fans and club are based in. That said, our prices are way below our relative peers too, and have been for some years. I would like to see the data they've used, but 10% sounds not far off. Tough pill to swallow in this age of everything skyrocketing in price though. Edited April 8, 2022 by MrBlack

Guest av1
Probably a silly question, but my son turns 18 in August. Season tickets obviously go on sale before that, so when I renew with I be charged a U18 fee given he will be 17 at the time of purchase, or adult prices as he will be 18 by the time the season starts?
