Right. How do you rate Brazil's and France's squads?

Look, I'm not saying we don't have good players, but we also have several players in our starting 11 that fall short of the consistent quality we need to move rapidly up the table (Watkins and McGinn being two that spring to mind instantly, as well as Mings who makes too many mistakes).

As it stands, we will probably improve a bit on last season (not too hard given how much we flopped), maybe by 3 or 4 places higher, but I don't think we'll be close to the top 7 and probably be at least 10 points behind the top 6. Football is a strange game though, West Ham went from finishing 16th to finishing 6th, Villa may surprise me and do really well with Bailey scoring 10+, Watkins and Ings getting 30 goals between them, Buendia and Coutinho getting 10+ assists each, and our new signings Kamara and Carlos being the signings of the season, but the stars would really have to align for all that to happen.

The hope is that management realise where our weaknesses are and go and address them before our first game of the season - my concern is there are absolutely no links to any quality players from any decent sources which suggests we are trying to move players our the door before we commit to buying any more players.

Must admit I've been hoping for the same...

It's certainly possibly as you mention Wet Spam did it.

Hopefully Villa get a good preseason for once, some consistency and the time to align our new players with the current crop, work on tactics and implement a philosophy. Gerrard is noted from his time at Rangers to get his players fighting fit so I would expect Villa to improve there also.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a little luck on our side and get a great start and be prepared for the email season.

I'm happy with the business so far. Exactly what we need in terms of both position and quality.

We all agreed we should sign Coutinho permanently, and we did.

Needed a permanent no 2, we got one.

Needed a quality specialist 6 that can actually defend, we got one.

Needed a quality RCB to improve our central defense. We got one.

We all agreed we needed a back up left back and a DM / defensive 8, which I believe we are working on.

Striker and Winger would be icing on the cake signings.

So far so good, just a couple more in.

The base of the team looks solid. Martinez, Mings, Carlos, Kamara, plus Cash and Digne.

There are often no solid links to players that we buy.

It's how we do our business.

Patience required. 👍

Too soft for the Premiership and will be moved on if a suitable offer comes in.

Would rather have Souchek. Might be available and would give Villa a better presence in midfield. Only 27 and can score goals too.

Offer Spam Ings and 10m?

Quite possibly the craziest post I have ever read! 😂

I would argue the problem we have had is our decent players have to play virtually every game and that impacts on performance levels.

The speed and demands of the game have changed, the top 6 can rotate players without significant drop in quality or performances, plus it gives others better recovery which enables them to deliver higher levels of performance when they are bought back into the team.

If we improve the squad AND Gerrard is confident to use it I would suggest our consistency levels would likely improve across the team, but we are not there yet.

Some VT posters second fav teams - Leeds (jokes) reportedly targeting  Mohamed Camara… Can’t say I know much about him - Malian DM. Does sound an elite version of Nakamba

In the defensive phase Camara is extremely active and this fits the Red Bull characteristic of aggressive pressing and possession regains in the defensive phase. He perhaps profiles best as a ‘6’ or even an ‘8’-and-a-half with his ability to take up deep positions both in and out of possession and to provide a release for players in possession looking to regain possession and a safety net for players who look to move to a higher line that could be exploited by the opposition in transition. It is not uncommon, for example, for RB Salzburg to push their fullbacks, on both sides, high in the possession phase in order to provide width to the attack. If the opposition regains possession and then tries to transition with direct passes into the wide areas it tends to be Mohamed Camara who shuttles across to close down the danger for his side

Seems Salah is available.... what we saying? lol

380k per week apparently he wants.

If it wasnt for FFP Sawaris would pay him a million a week. Its the equivalent of signing Messi for an Egyptian

Sanson has had problems with his knees. Fitness has been an issue for him.

Sitting in the bench weekly while McGinn kicks the ball at opponents eill damage your knees

He is better than Bissouma who was the weakest of the Mali centre midfielders
