Aston Villa is delighted to announce a new collaborative partnership with Japanese club, Vissel Kobe, further strengthening our international network and player development pipeline.

Ooh massive!

Very pleasant news, given the various teething problems with the Vitoria partnership, thanks to UEFA.

And J League is being introduced to FM24. That's that save sorted.

Vissel Kobe are owned by Rakuten. Interestingly, they had a thing going with Barcelona for a few years, with a strategic partnership like ours (seemingly just for one or two seasons), Rakuten as Barca's sponsor for three years (and a partner for longer) and Inieista signing for them.

Rakuten on the front of our shirts next season for £40m?  I'll take it!

Vissel are top of J1 so a pretty good team by the looks of that, two of their best U16s are coming to train with us at the end of the month.

There's a video statement from Sawiris on the official site

The J league is about the same level as the Australian A league so I wouldn't be getting overly exicted the A league is pretty crap tbh!

Then watch another sport that’s antiquated or deal with it ! …

Thats an incredibly arrogant answer for people that dont want football teams that are mainly working class to be owned by countries or major corporations

That horse has bolted and football hasn’t been working class for decades and will never be again… it’s reality not arrogance. You either accept the things you cannot change and deal with it, or go and find some back water sport where modern day realities don’t apply

Exposure from a link to the biggest league in the world, they're a middling J league club in one of japan's lesser known cities which is probably only known for its beef, even if the reality for them is we boost their academy both in terms of infrastructure and draw, the ability to say to a 16 year old talent join our academy because we have a PL route, that's a huge thing even if no one actually does it, same with Zed, they've got a kid in a PL academy, imagine sitting down with another kids family and saying join us because we can do this, it's a big thing

And like I said they had a link with barca previously, despite their size and achievements they are owned by a big company

Next step - Announce rakuten as an official partner... Thats also plausible, not particularly successful or even well known in the UK, they've got potential for growth being linked with us

Rakuten also hand out incredibly lucrative sponsorship deals. Their sponsorship with the golden state warriors has been the largest in north American sports since the nba allowed sponsors.

Japan is a wealthy nation with 120 million people. Athletic achievement as a nation strongly correlates with wealth and population. Japan is a massively untapped market for athletic talent in football

Look at south Korea a country with a population half the size and they've produced son, kang-in and min chae all of whom are in the top 100 in the world atm.

Japans largest sport is baseball and they've arguably produced the most talented baseball player ever in shohei ohtani who when he was fit the last few seasons was the best pitcher and batter in the sport.
