PieFacE Posted January 30, 2022 VT Supporter Share Posted January 30, 2022 Wonder if we'll make a move for Cheick Doucouré to fill a gap until the summer. Heavily linked in the summer window. Can't be too expensive.

As much as I think we’ve done some great business this window, I find it frustrating that we are not solving that one position. I’m ok with waiting to summer to sort it but there really should be no excuses after that.

Bentancur, Bissouma, Phillips, etc... we are crying out for one of those players. Villa want to act like big boys but won't; meanwhile we play Luiz in that defensive position and Nakamba is injured. I think this is why I just feel a bit deflated despite us bringing in some top players this window. We just don’t want to spend big on what is the most important part of the team. We’ve invested heavily in most parts of this team - GK, CB, LB, ST and of course wingers/attacking midfielders. Yet our most expensive CM was Luiz at £15m. Think he’s the most we’ve ever spent on a CM in our entire history which is crazy. Unless we’re prepared to do what Brighton do and bring in the likes of Bissouma and mould them into a top midfielder, then we will have to spend the money. And even if we were prepared to do that, it would be 2-3 years before we see the player develop into a top midfielder and we can’t wait that long. Popular Post VillaJay
If we can't get our primary targets this window, there's no point signing players who don't improve on our starting 11. Chambers will cover CB/RB and DM until Nakamba is fit and I'm sure we'll look at a DM in the summer window. Overall it's been a very good transfer window.
Popular Post Jas10
I see no reason to assume our business is done… the window hasn’t closed yet. And most of the activity is done on deadline day, no matter how much clubs try to avoid that scenario. Who has been completely successful in calling any/all of the club’s moves so far? Media barely have a clue, it’s mostly just rumours and speculation. If it is over, no big deal. We’ll look at it again in the summer. We still have players at the club that we need to get the best out of (and to get/keep fit!!). But, there’s every chance we’ll complete at least one more signing (maybe even out of the blue as we have already seen with Ings & Chambers). SG clearly wants to continue to strengthen the team and has been backed by Purslow & Lange. If the possibility and value is there, we’ll go for it. Best to sit back, relax and be patient. We’re not going to waste funds for the sake of it but will take our opportunities when/if they arise.

VillaFaninLondon
Even someone like Sangare from PSV I think would improve us and he’d probably be a similar price range to Bentancur. We don’t necessarily have to spend £40-50m on someone. Edited January 30, 2022 by VillaFaninLondon

Was just about to mention him as the name was constantly brought up last window and no one appears to have mentioned him this time, until now. Someone mentioned Merino again recently too. Worthwhile options for sure… there are many out there but many of us seem fixated on the usual names or “rated players”. There are bargains to be had too, we don’t have to spend big but you won’t hear me arguing if we decide to

Popular Post wilko154
Buying a player as a stop gap, and lumbering ourselves with 3-4 years of wages is something the Aston Villa of old would have done. If we can't get the right player in this window, I have no problems with waiting until the Summer. Our midfield is at least mid-table level right now, with Sanson still an unknown quantity. It gives both him and Chukwuemeka a chance to establish themselves. Saying all of that, I wouldn't be surprised to see Villa pull something out of the bag tomorrow.
