It would be one of the greatest British footballing achievements if Derby stay up this season.

I really hope they do for the fans sake, then get in a decent owner. Fans shouldn't be punished because some millionnaire clearing in the woods over reaches himself.

He's doing a good job, but even if you gave them their deducted 21 points back they would still only be fifteenth, and when you look at their squad it isn't actually that bad, them having a decent academy producing players like Thompson, Bird, Knight, Sibley, Buchanan, Plange (albeit via Arsenal's academy) and Ebosele has helped them a lot.

That said you could say that where they would be without their points deduction doesn't really come into it, because a team starting the season with a big points deduction is going to have a completely different mentality to a team without a points deduction, Rooney has had to convince his players that they still have a chance, some teams in Derby's situation would have given up and accepted their fate.

The infuriating thing about points deduction is that without it they would probably have their new owner in place now and be financially secure, most potential new owners are probably awaiting the outcome of their relegation battle.

So what is a dire financial situation which could be remedied becomes fatal. It's just such a dumb way of dealing with it.

Rooney now being questioned by the FA because he sid he wore longer studs in a game to injure somebody................in 2006 when he was 20

You would think the FA have better things to investigate at this time

Exactly, he said the studs were perfectly legal. What a waste of energy.

I doubt many of those players would be near the squad without the issues they've had. How many other Championship sides are regularly fielding half a team under 20 years old and then most of the eleven otherwise are on the verge of retirement. The only player you could say is in his prime years is Lawrence. If at the start of the season you looked at this team, only Lawrence and maybe Bird and Knight would have got into another starting 11 for me.

He's lost several key players such as Stearman yet they are picking up points time and time again.

The young players are extremely talented but to be picking up points at this level is a huge achievement, we have seen with our top talents at not too similar ages that they struggle to even impact League One games.

I agree having something to fight/motivate against helps but he's still doing a fantastic job.

Their squad is dogshit, they've only had free transfers and academy players coming through.

You have to give Rooney credit for getting the youngsters performing, he wasn't presented with ready made players from the academy.

Even being in the fight is a miracle.

I have given Rooney credit...

I also give their academy credit...

They would be in the squad, they're all highly rated and they're lucky they haven't been forced to sell them.

Ebosele It's being widely reported has signed a pre agreement with Udinese.

Plange has already signed a pre-contract with Crystal Palace.

Buchanan is an England U21 international is rated as one of the best young left-backs in the Championship.

Jason Knight was being linked to Leeds, Everton, and Wolves in the January transfer window, and already has nine Ireland caps at just twenty years old.

Max Bird also been linked with a move to the Premier League for big money.

Sibley was rated as one of the best young midfielders in the championship a year or so back, his form seems to have dropped, but he's still young and if he was to move it would be to a decent Championship team or to a Premier League side.

And all of them except for Plange and Ebosele were established in their team before this season began, they would all get in most other championship teams.

But Rooney was the manager last season as well, helping establish those players.

You make it seem like the academy has nothing to do with Rooney.

Like how Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool and their other favourites regularly get given the rub of the green; with referee decisions, leeway with financial issues, slaps on the wrist when they tried to take their ball and leave to a competition where they could cherry pick all the best players and there would be no consequences to them having a poor season…

Nah… Just concentrate on turning the screw on Derby, Bolton and Bury… They aren’t popular or rich enough to fight back

"Still only be 15th" sounds like they're not performing that well - but look at the difference in terms of points rather than league position.  If they had their points back, they'd be 17 points clear of relegation and 6 points off the playoffs.  So, yes, "only 15th" but basically in with a shot at the playoffs.  The points difference between 6th and 14th is 4 points - it's so, so tight.

Rooney has done a remarkable job given the problems that club has suffered.  If they stay up, he's Manager Of The Season (depending on where Forest finish, perhaps).

No where have I made it seem like the academy has nothing to do with Rooney, I haven't said anything negative about Rooney at all, I just pointed out that there squad isn't that bad, 'squad' was probably the wrong word, but they can put out a decent first eleven with every one fit, many of whom would get in most other championship sides, certainly midtable ones, a number of them would get Premier League moves.

I also pointed out that despite that, Rooney has still done a good job because the points deduction would have meant the squad being in a different place mentally than they would have been without it, as I said most teams would have given up with their points deduction and accepted relegation, Rooney managed to convince them otherwise.
