Summer transfer window 2021

If we just want a dead ball specialist we might as well try for Hakan Çalhanoğlu who's out of contract in the summer. Just like Ward-Prowse it's not going to happen but at least he can play in the #10 position.

I agree totally, this season that energy seems to be lacking though normally thats his game (remembers all the incessant running clips). I actually did mean he was the weakness in that midfield when comparing him with Bremner as that was also how he was perceived as i remember.

Anyhow i agree he's not been at his best this season.

Fair enough matey - I wasn't really able to extrapolate that from your initial post, sorry for my misunderstanding!

It's quite sad to see McGinn at this level tbf, he was absolutely brilliant in his first season and I don't really like the fact that I don't want him to start for us anymore.

He has never played that position in his life for Southampton.

Yes he has, just google it and you’ll see. Either way he’s a player that would significantly enhance our midfield - I think we can agree on that.

That's the sort of level we should be looking at tbf - it'd be a long shot, as you say, but the conditions are right for the signing. We're not going to be signing established first teamers from premier league rivals at 50m or so - it doesn't make sense for a whole host of reasons.

I don't think in general play he's better than either Luiz or McGinn - what the does have is that incredible dead ball ability.

That would be a great weapon for us, but for me I'd rather go with a plater that can do more in open play.

It's a no from me for the sort of money we'd have to pay.

Maybe the odd game but it's was basically Hojiberg for last few seasons before he left for Spurs and played in that position for them and this season it's largely been Oriol Romeu.

Ward Prowse more of an 8 and does have more to his game than Hourihane in he can actually press a bit....but not 40m more worth considering we signed Conor for about 2m. For that sort of fee there's loads of better midfielders in europe.

The number one priority has to be a CAM - we've seen what we can do when Barkley was on song and Grealish was playing. I really think Luiz and Sanson will be fine next season in the other centre mid positions.

Not the least bit interested in JWP. Overpriced (poor value), not good enough, in no way, shape or form is he a 10 🤦‍♂️. Won’t move from Southampton unless somehow a top 4 club makes a move for him.

Waste of money. Why the obsession with Prem based players? We have enough experience already, we need outstanding quality, not just a free kick taker.

It's definitely something we need - we'll need to replace the Barkley experiment, which we could still do by moving Jack over and buying a left sided player - I'm not against that and then using Ramsey/Chukwuemeka to give him the occasional rest - but I think we need two new face n that three man line behind Ollie with enough quality so that Jack doesn't need to be overplayed and to give us threats from all over the field.

It'll largely depend on who is available, I suppose. Personally, I'd prefer Jack stay out left as I think he plays his best there but if there's a 9/10 wide player available vs. a 7/10 CAM, then we'd just have to go with the former, I guess.

JWP is not a number 10! He's an 8 or a 6.

I don't rate him. We have what he gives in abundance apart from dead ball, and I'd never buy a player for that reason. There are so many better players out there.

Totally agree with this but we do desperately need a dead ball specialist from somewhere. We win so many free kicks and corners and rarely threaten from any of them. Add 10 goals from dead ball situations and we would climb another few places without having todo too much.

We certainly do, the 3 new players in that line up are quite proficient at striking a dead ball. We need to be more of a threat aerially too.

I'm worried about next season because if we continue this route we'll be in a relegation scrap. We need some good investment to stay put in 11-14th. Next season will be tough, I predict.

How the hell would signing Tammy or any other CF help and improve us when our midfield is so weak and poor and we lack creativity??

Just shows how poor/weak we are when have to give Ramsey (get him out on loan) time in the team just for some added energy or whatever. If we want to be a serious, top half team in this league then we need proper players that can mix it with any team.

McGinn also frustrates me with his inconsistency, loose passing and poor control... he telegraphs every pass and can be quite lumbering and slow at times. I guess some of the players are being overplayed and lacking energy & stamina but it’s not really an excuse when other teams are in the same boat really...

Very frustrated today.

We need a 10 desperately, today’s game showed that. Ramsey looks promising, but he’s not our starter. Either spend big (not Barkley), or Jack is played there and we need to buy a LW.

Ramsey is neither ready nor good enough. Send him out on loan and hopefully he will improve and develop.

We need proper, high quality players or we will struggle to do any better next season. We lack strength and physicality in midfield - that is completely obvious.

Still, we must try not to overreact immediately after a loss but it’s clear that we need improvements in order to progress.

Best to stay positive but nothing wrong with being critical when it is worthwhile and justified.
