Vive_La_Villa
If he wants to leave and the money is right I think the club should probably sell him and wish him well.

Not a finance person myself However, I saw someone break it down which made it still seem decent. Apparently on the balance sheet it's not just as straightforward as " 12 million " and would allow you to do a decent amount re other wages and transfer fees etc? But what it means is you can effectively spend 5 times that assuming you sign a player on a 5 year deal. Ie £100k/week = £5m. That leaves £7m a year to be amortised over 5 years, so a £35m transfer fee. Obviously it only covers it for the year it comes in, so you would need to find that £12m for each of the next 4 years, whether through increased income or reduced costs. What it gives you is flexibility to play with FFP in that specific year, particularly if you expect players to sign contract extensions reducing their yearly amortisation, or through sales in the future. 3

He’s not restricted to solely playing the left AM role in my opinion. I think he can play LM, RM and CM. I imagine J. Ramsey, Diaby + McGinn are first choice. Then Buendia, Coutinho, Bailey and JPB are back-up. I’m genuinely not inspired by this group. He might not be better than any of them this season - but it’s not far fetched to think he could be better than all of them in 24/25 or 26/27. As I said before, if it’s a buy-back clause with a pre-agreed contract - fine. If it’s not, it does seem short-sighted.
VILLAMARV
It would be a real shame if he left, without really getting his chance here imo, but if he feels ready and isn't going to get the chance here and wants to leave, why should we stand in his way? omariqy
Smart business if we sell for £12m for pure profit and can buy him back for £20m (effectively £4m a year over 5 years)
zab6359
As much as my heart says keep him he's one of our own and lets develop him some more and bring him into the team maybe after another loan, there is no clear pathway for him right now. So sell with clauses just makes sense.
John
Could we insert a buy back clause and insist on a percentage of any future fee above £12m, to cover us just in case, Aaron preferred another club's offer? I was thinking something like 25%, with a £25m buy back for the next 2 or 3 years.

I think we would be mad not to have a large sell on clause included as well.
Mark Albrighton Posted August 8, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted August 8, 2023 Understand the pragmatism of it all. I want to see Jacob, Aaron and Cole all on the pitch playing together for Villa and I don’t want anything to jeopardise that.

Villatillidie95
I think its dragging on due to how highly we rate him and the fact we are wanting to put these clauses in. Its good to see tbh, so often we have botched these types of high potential sales and have nothing to show for it. If its gonna happen then its good that its on our terms
